My daughter is kindergarten age come this fall and we are considering unschooling. One of my concerns around this decision is whether we can find a community of homeschoolers to join forces with for playdates, field trips, park visits, etc. All of her friends are moving forward into the public school systems and I suspect she will lose touch with a lot of them once their preschool days are over. Since kindergarten in our area is full day there won't be many children around for daytime play and I do not want her to feel isolated or lonely. I know there have to be masses of unschoolers or other cool homeschoolers in the Springfield/Northhampton area. Anyone wanna come out and play?

You might want to check out the Pioneer Valley Homeschoolers website. It's http://www.cookwood.com If you call one of the contact people they can give you a password to view a list of local homeschool groups and events. There are lots of Western, MA homeschoolers to be found.

Just correcting Beth's post. The website is www.cookwood.com/pvhg
otherwise you just get to look to at lots of great publishing information!

I bet you'll find that there are lots of people who want to play. Check out the library in the middle of the day, when all the little ones are napping and the bigger ones are in school.

Thank you for the information ladies! We have found a few groups now and are thrilled to see the abundance of local activities and resources for homeschoolers. Beth, I look forward to checking out some of the classes at your coop in the future. They sound wonderful!
