Last weekend, :AF returned. I didn't want it back. I had nipple pain for a couple of weeks beforehand, which faded over the course of bleeding until it was gone the same time as the bleeding.

So am I going to have painful nursing 3 out of every 5 weeks (I tend toward long cycles)? Whaaaa!

I can totally sympathize with you! I know every woman is different, and I am not sure how soon after having your baby your period came back. My DS turned a year old May 28th, and I got my first period the middle of April - I too had a lot of nipple pain, and DS acted like he didn't want to nurse as much. That period was only 3 days (I was used to 7-day periods before!) I totally missed a May period, but just started another one yesterday. Once again, DS is acting like something is different and isn't nursing really well; plus nursing feels uncomfortable. While I haven't read extensively on the subject, I know enough to realize this is pretty normal . I think there is even a scientific word for erratic periods while nursing. Maybe you could try someof the tecniques you used in the beginning of nursing to help sooth nipple irritation - Lansinoh, Soothies, warm/cool cloths. Best of luck!

Yesss!
My son is 22 months old and I just got my first real period a few days ago. I felt awful last week, my nipples were on fire and I felt like I was getting a yeast infection. So I thought I had that plus thrush. And then, surprise!

I didn't miss it at all. Not having a period for almost 3 years has been great :LOL

For the past year I would get what I'd call my "phantom period". All the bloating and homone hell but no blood. Now I have everything. Oh goody.

When AF first returned (13 mos pp) I had nipple sensitivity (nothing like early pregnancy...) and seemingly a drop in milk supply from about the time of ovulation until my period came for maybe two cycles, and now at 18+ months pp it's really faded so that I hardly notice any difference. Maybe it will improve for you, too. (I'm an older first-time mom, dunno whether that would make a difference.)

Yep, nipple pain! I only get it for a couple of days about a week before AF - I have had it twice now since AF returned at 17 months ppd. Man the first time I seriously though I had the worst case of thrush. I'm hoping I'll just get pregnant after this visit and then I won't have to worry about it (just really sore breasts!). But, yea, welcome to the world of nursing with PMS.

OMG~ I thought I was the only one! The nipple pain starts right after ovulation and continues through my period......although it does fade as my period wears on.......This is nuts! About 2-3 weeks out of every month, my nipples are on fire! It feels just like thrush, which we have had serious issues with, but no matter what I do, it doesn't go away, until my period comes. I have treated for thrush every month since January and apparently it is not thrush, but it sure sucks to not be able to do anything to help it.........This is gonna be a long few years.

Yes, yes, yes! But I have a solution!!! I had horrible nipple pain when AF came back, not to mention cracking and bleeding. Yikes. Daily Evening Primrose Oil really took care of it. You really do have to take it every day, but it works wonders.
