not sure what it is called, but what if your placenta is covering your cervix, or down in that region? if you chose to not have an U/S, how would you deal with this? can you self diagnose this type of problem? what wouild happen if you never knew and went into labor???

You mean grade IV placenta previa? It is very unlikely you would not know about it, as you would most likely bleed during pregnancy, and if you were listening to the baby/placenta, you would probably have a fair idea of where your placenta was placed, ie low, and that may give you something to work with.
