Besides breastmilk? My DD just turned one. She refuses to drink anything other than breastmilk. She just spits other liquids out with a disgusted look on her face. Is this normal? I've given her water and even juice in a sippy cup and in regular cups. She takes in about 28 oz. of breastmilk each day. (I know, b/c I'm pumping all of it)

So I'm just wondering if my DD is fairly normal for her age.....

My DS will occasionally drink some water in a sippy cup, but that's it. Over the last 2 months he has started drinking a little more water with meals, originally it was just a novelty. He always likes it more when it is coming from a "big person" water bottle or cup. He nurses 10+ times a day, I don't keep track of exactly how many times but it is quite a few. He's sensitive to dairy and soy so I haven't given him any milk and I don't want to give him juice yet.

My son is 33 mos. old, nurses often (4 times so far today in the 2.5 hours we've been up), and drinks roughly 6-12 oz. of water a day, and occasionally 2-4 oz. of soymilk. He also gets soymilk in his cereal. We don't do juice or anything else.

My DS drinks a LOT. He's 2 yrs 8 mos and no longer nursing. He drinks at least 4 ten ounce cups of water with a splash of juicy juice per day. Sometimes as many as 6 or more. But he's always hot and sweats often so I think he's just replenishing his fluids. I have a cup of water available to him at all times during the day.

About 16 ounces a day of plain water. She still breastfeeds 3X a day. She has never had juice. She might have a small amount of rice drink before bed if I am not home to give her bm.

DS is 21 months and he drinks 2 cups of milk (not breastfed), 2 ounces of juice watered down with 2 ounces of water twice a day, and the rest of the day water, water, water. I don't really know how much, but he always has a cup available

My ds is 14 mths old and he nurses 3 - 4 times a day. He drinks very diluted apple juice and rice milk from a sippy cup too. I would estimate, other than bm, he drinks 12 - 18 oz of liquid a day.

My son drinks just water and breastmilk. I have tried cow's milk and juice with him, but he does not like it. He nurses before nap and bed (sometimes also first thing in the morning), and probably drinks 3-4 cups of water a day as well.

About the same here, and my dd is 19 months old. However...I work full-time and so I am only available to nurse her between 4:30 pm and 7 am.

My DD has constant access to a cup of water throughout the daytime hours. We use a cup with a straw for her and keep it on a low table in the kitchen.

She will occasionally take a sip and will drink some with every meal.

That said, she doesn't consume even half of the cup in one day.

She still nurses frequently throughout the day and nurses seemingly all night long.

She's dairy sensitive so she doesn't have any cow's milk and we don't drink juices, so water is the only beverage choice other than breastmilk.

my dd is 14 months old and drinks maybe and i mean maybe 1-3 oz of water a day, but usally she just nurses all day long.... if i'm gone working all day (nurse on lunch hour) then she will drink water a little more but still never a whole cup. She also can't drink out of a sippy very well still and only uses a straw sippy cup.

My 16 month old drinks maybe 1-2 cups of water a day and will sip whatever I'm drinking (water, tea, milk). I would say it's pretty normal that your dc is refusing drinks. She may not like the new taste and she just may not be thirsty. There are some days when dd seems not to drink that much at all. I wouldn't worry.

Have you tried diluting your bm with a little bit of water- that way she starts to get used to things tasting different but it won't be so drastic?!

dd (16 months) isn't very keen on any liquids other than bm - she loves to try whatever I'm drinking (caffeine free teas, water, apple cider) but gets maybe 2 ounces at most of additional liquid. I always have a cup around for her, but it's very rarely that she'll actually initiate drinking from it.

My DS, 16 mos, drinks 1-2 cups of water a day (8 oz each) plus BF 3+ times a day.

I WOH so he usally drinks one cup during the day then works on a second one in the evening. If he didn't drink much during the day I will put a bit of carrot juice or something in his water cup in the evening to encourage him to drink a bit more (constipation issues otherwise).

We drink water or herbal tea here, so that's all I've ever offered ds. He drinks maybe 2 cups or so a day.
