My neice is graduating this year....I would like to spend about $50 on something cool for her.<br><br>
Also my daughter has a helper in grade 8 and I would like to buy something for her as well.<br><br>
Any ideas?

If you really want to give her something, cash is always a good grad gift.<br><br>
For your DD's helper, maybe an iTunes gift card?

I was so confused at the title of this so it was refreshing to see the first reply. I have a son who is graduating 8th grade this year and I had no idea that gifts were expected or even done.<br><br>
It'll be interesting to see other replies. Are gifts really standard at 8th grade or is it possibly a regional thing?

Yeah I wouldn't give a gift, personally. Just a congrats card if it's expected. But really, they are graduating anything- just moving to a different school. School isn't done, nothing is actually completed, IMO. It's like "Great! You don't have to repeat 8th grade. Good job!" <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> If it's expected in your circle/region, I would give a card and maybe $20 or a nice necklace or picture frame that she could put pics of friends in (because she probably doesn't realize yet that she most likely won't be friends with those same people in high school).

But I know in some areas this is important. I would not spend $50 on it though.

hmmmmm....interesting. Here the kids go all out (not when I was young though) they dress up, have a dinner, rent limos etc.<br><br>
