A pat on the back and a "have fun at high school"? Sorry, when I was younger the only two acknowledged graduations were high school and college. If you really want to give her something, cash is always a good grad gift.

For your DD's helper, maybe an iTunes gift card?

I was so confused at the title of this so it was refreshing to see the first reply. I have a son who is graduating 8th grade this year and I had no idea that gifts were expected or even done.

It'll be interesting to see other replies. Are gifts really standard at 8th grade or is it possibly a regional thing?

Yeah I wouldn't give a gift, personally. Just a congrats card if it's expected. But really, they are graduating anything- just moving to a different school. School isn't done, nothing is actually completed, IMO. It's like "Great! You don't have to repeat 8th grade. Good job!" If it's expected in your circle/region, I would give a card and maybe $20 or a nice necklace or picture frame that she could put pics of friends in (because she probably doesn't realize yet that she most likely won't be friends with those same people in high school).

I'd say a cool necklace, bracelet or a gift card to somewhere.

I agree with others about the pat on the back.

But I know in some areas this is important. I would not spend $50 on it though.

don't let my 8th grader see this, he's getting nothing and expects nothing
