WHAT are these sores on poor ds?

My dh and I took a little overnight
last weekend and I left the sitters with disposeables bc something always goes awry when I let them use the cloth (meaning a cover is left off, or a daytime diaper is used for nighttime, etc.). I just thought these were fail proof!

Well, when we got back, my poor guy had these on his groin: Eliot's Ouchies

I don't know if it's an allergic reaction to the diaper or if someone left a diaper on too long or WHAT!! It's awful. They look like blisters that have broken.
: I've used disposeables before--same kind, same size for up to 10 days while travelling and I've never seen anything like this! I'm making an appt. with the dr. and am putting antibiotic on in the meantime. Does anyone recognize this?

Thanks, ladies!

Sorry I don't have any advice but I hope it heals up soon.

Aww! Poor baby! You're right- it does look like blisters that have broken.
Chemical burn from the gel, maybe? I don't know...but hope it heals quickly.

Could the velcro part of the diaper been rubbing him there?

Poor guy, that looks like it really hurts!
That looks like a burn to me. I'm glad you are taking him to the doc. Are there more than one? If there are, where are the others located? That *could* be from the velcro rubbing, but I would think he would have been terribly uncomfy (read:lots of crying) for it to get that bad. I hope it heals up soon.

Well. . .I'm still taking him to the drs, but I wanted to answer some questions. Yes, there are more. There are about 5 around his inner legs and creases, and there are two on his scrotum and 2 on his penis as well as a couple under his scrotum.

Also, I've examined them a little more closely and I really think they could be fire ant bites gone bad. There are still a couple that are the red circle w/a small blister on the center. So, that could be it.
I cannot imagine his horror as he probably couldn't voice what was wrong. If this is the case, it would have happened on fri. or sat. bc i saw the blisters on sun. Fire ants in your pants are not funny. And to think I just had soaker shorts made w/an ants in your pants theme.

It looks a little like Impetigo. Look it up on webmd. Impetigo is a highly contagious bacterial skin infection. It can appear anywhere on the body but usually attacks exposed areas. Children tend to get it on the face, especially around the nose and mouth, and sometimes on the arms or legs. The infected areas appear in patches ranging from dime to quarter size, starting as tiny blisters that break and expose moist, red skin. After a few days the infected area is covered with a grainy, golden crust that gradually spreads at the edges. Is your Dr appt. tomorrow? My sister had it as an infant in her diaper area.

Poor guy. My DS got over 70 fire ant bites when he was 15 months old. They had infested his carseat when MIL left it out in her yard, and attacked him on the way home...and we got held up by a train. It was so awful. I didn't realize why he was crying until we got him out of the car. (He would often cry in the car...especially when leaving MIL's).

I'm sorry if I sounded like I was accusing, that spot just looks so painful.

That is what I was going to say. DS had this once and it was has horrible looking--he had to be on antibiotics to get rid of it. I noticed it happened when he had really bad poop (probably acidic) and it hurt his skin and then it got infected/blisters.
Hmmm. . .impetigo--could be, could be. Dr. appt is today. JoAida--you didn't offend me. I was just quick in my response and didn't feel attacked at all, just felt understood.
I don't have as much time on computer as I used to, so all my responses tend to be quick and to the point--abbreviated, if you will! Thank you all for responding so quickly and for feeling my ds's pain. I'll let you know what dr. says. Warmly, Stephanie

I'll guess viral. I don't really know though. Does he have sores anywhere else? Back of throat? Hands? Feet? Could be Hand Foot and Mouth disease if so.

Hope you find out today! Good luck and best wishes!

Well. . .no other sores anywhere else, Well, I take that back; he has a blister on his heel that went bad from an ant bite that I KNOW happened--and it kept getting bigger and bigger. Then, he had this small cut on his knee that kept getting bigger and bigger. This is sounding more and more like impetigo to me. It just didn't occur to me that he would have this, but you know what. . .he was digging in the dirt last weekend and had it all under his fingernails. And then, there's the new puppy. Ugh. My life just got dirtier and germier. I'm off to take a shower. :LOL

Thank you everyone for all the hugs. I haven't been here in awhile cause well, I was busy homeschooling and taking care of three kids and I was trying not to spend $$ on diapers that we seem to be using less and less of (PT around the corner, I'm sure). You all make me feel accepted.

And the winner is. . .

SPARK!! According to my ped: "something viral" with "infected lesions." Yum. So, he has an oral antibiotic, a topical antibiotic and a watch and see plan. I forgot to ask why an oral is necessary; I'm assuming to prevent sepsis? And gotta love the deductibles which make insurance policies practically null and void, as well as pointless, and create a great big gaping hole in my backpack (don't carry a purse).

Thanks everyone for playing! And we'll see you next time on. . ."IDENTIFY THIS RASH!"
Aww-I hope your little guy is all better soon. Poor thing.
Ugh, I had virals like that.

Hope he heals up fast, I'm sure it just kills you everytime you see the sores. Hang in there!

Allergy, and a very serious one at that. I would not put one of those on him ever again. Eczema can blister like that too if the allergy is really bad. I think he has eczema.
Hope he gets better soon. It did look just like Impetigo.

See. . .this is exactly what I was thinking. And the first thing my ped said when she saw his scratched up legs was, 'oh, his eczema has really flared. Are these bites?' And, well, they're mosquito bites, but he's scratched them so that they bleed. and his face around his mouth is out of control--I have to put clotrimazole on it bc he drools so badly that it breeds yeast. And, I happen to think that he's scratched his bum and groin from the eczema and THAT's how they got infected. His skin is sensitive all over no matter what it is up against. I think the babysitters PROBABLY left that disposeable on too long or he's built up that immune reaction to it from the times I've used them before. I don't know. (I always question my ped. Do you think it's possible ever to find one that you trust implicitly).

Anyway, the dr. suggested disposeables, but Eliot said he wanted his "sof" dipe on. So, that's the way we'll go!

That is the thing, doctors are human and do not always keep up with all the new information that is out there. I know from experience that my sons get blisters from their eczema at times due to sever allergies. My one son is allergic to protien and I have been telling my family doctor this since he was born but she kept saying no way. Well I finally got to see a decent ped and he knew right off he has a sever protien allergy and cannot have anything cow period! HE has been off cow for over a week and man what a difference in him. HE has totally changed.

I also get the blisters on my hands that later pop and are all red. I have eczema but am very allergic to perfumes and plastics. Doctors are human and regardless how much education they have someone like my son and me can throw them for a loop. They forget that although we are all similar we are all very different also.

I hope your baby heals up fast and you figure out exactly what the cause is so your not having to go through it over and over as I did.

Take care
