DD will be doing K/1 this year, the only area that she doesnt seem to be in the 1st grade level is that she can't read. I know not all 1st graders read, but with the look on curriculums, most of them are aimed at kids who are reading, atleaset the ones Ive found.

Anyone use Evan Moor? I found a few booklets that looked like fun, I was thinking of getting this one: http://www.evan-moor.com/catalog/boo...D=146#bookdesc since I want to do more fun stuff with Native Americans this fall, last year we had a blast with activities and crafts, I just dont know many facts at all, and she stumped me a lot, I had a hard time finding information online as well. Id take resources if anyone has any too.

So what are you going to be doing with your K/1st graders this fall/year? Doesnt have to be all curriculum, free sites welcome too.

Some of them are quite nice and very fun, but other just seem like busy work. My DDs really like "Pocket Books" from Evan Moor. They have lots of coloring, cutting, pasting, etc. but all focused around one theme. I think there is a Pocket Book on Native Americans. Many teacher supply stores carry these so you can go and see them -- take your DD with you and have her help decide if they look like fun or not.

There is a lovely picture book about Inuits called "My Very Last First Time" but I can't remember the author. Wonderful book!

Paul Goble has written several books based on Native American myths and they are super. "The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses" was my DDs' favorite but they are all good.

We use Evan-Moore Daily Geography to help with map reading skills. We chose Gr. 2 because there's little difference from year to year. Some materials looks good for extra practice (proofreading, etc.), and others look more like something to kill 15 minutes of class time.

There is an excellent series of books by Michael Caduto that weaves Native American tales with such subjects as biology and earth science:

Keepers of the Animals
Keepers of the Earth
Keepers of Life
Keepers of the Night

Teachers guides are available as well.

John Bierhorst has a number of excellent collections of Native American folklore.

I have no idea yet.
So far, we worked a bit on the Renaissance period and then took a week to learn about snakes. In between, we have worked on math skills, writing, and crafts.

I will be looking for those pocket books though. They sound really interesting!

Is that (kindergarteners OR first graders), or K/1st graders specifically? And what if it's not a curriculum or a free site?

Just ignore me.

It sounds like my dd is about the same level as yours.
We are doing: Singapore Math (with me reading the instructions to her where appropriate). "Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons" for reading. Story of the World part 1. The Young Scientist Club. Homeschool gym at the rec center. These are our resources, but we're using them in an unschoolish way (dd gets to decide when and how much we do).
