I'm working on getting my bags packed for the birth center and am trying to think of good things to bring to eat in labor or snacks for my DH/midwives.

I baked pumpkin bread which I've frozen to bring with me, and I'm planning to bring a curried chicken dish with rice for me to eat after the birth or for DH/midwives to eat if it's a long labor and they need a meal.

I was also thinking of yogurt, fruit, and nuts...its hard to know what I will be in the mood for once labor starts. With DD, I had some chicken soup and bread in very early labor and then pumpkin bread and juice once labor got going.

What are you planning?

During labor probably just easy soft stuff....popsicles, yogurt, coconut water, broth, pudding. I threw up a lot last time but I did still eat small amounts constantly (which I suspect really helped with my ultramarathon labor). The throwing up wasn't a big deal for me, but my mother had boeuf bourguignon right before labor with one of her kids and still cannot eat it 40 years later!

I have a stash of frozen burritos to take with me for post-birth. I am excited about getting some space back for my stomach. :D

Oh, and the hospital where we're birthing has a liquids-only policy for laboring moms, but it's of course total bs and we completely ignored the rule last time and were given no hassle about it. I think the nurses feel that it's bs too...regardless, nobody's going to kick me out for eating some yogurt. :)

i didn't eat in my last labor or the active part of my first labor. earlier in my first labor, i just ate meals throughout the day- spaghetti for lunch, enchiladas for dinner. but, i cannot imagine eating those things once i was in active labor. ugh. i would want smooth, kinda bland things like oatmeal, girts, brothy soups, popsicles, coconut milk yogurt with some fruit mixed in, bananas, etc.

i like to drink water, red raspberry leaf tea and kombucha in labor.
