I'm looking for a few good pregnancy guide books. Any suggestions? What are you reading? I'm reading Ina May's guide to child birth right now, but I'm looking for something that has more to do with the actual pregnancy!

No pregnancy books here, I've got about 5 new novels that I've been working through.

Its funny last pregnancy I really wanted some pregnancy books but I didn't have access to any in English. This pregnancy I could have them if I wanted, but I'm kinda meh. I was looking through a couple but it occurred to me that most of the info in them was already posted somewhere on the internet.

Don't know what I'll be reading this time- I feel like I've already read 'em all! The only new one I have just started in Aviva Jill Romm's Natural Pregnancy Book.

I rec. the ones above, but it also depends on where you're birthing. A Thinking Woman's Guide by Henci Goer is great. So is Pushed by Jennifer Block- basically a compendium of all the recent research on induction, c/s, and different obstetric interventions compiled in a readable and engaging format.

One I really enjoyed while pg, was Baby Catcher by Peggy Vincent- not an informational birth prep book per se, but a midwife's autobiography with lots of different birth stories of births she attended, and her own- it really spoke to me about the power of birth.

Oh- Heart and Hands is another great one- it's a guide for midwives but I still love reading it.

I'm re-reading "Birthing From Within" (England) and "The Pregnancy Book" (Sears), too. I've also got "Thinking Woman's Guide" (Goer) earmarked for soon re-reading.

Have you guys seen Ricki Lake & Abby Epstein's book "Your Best Birth"? I saw it in Barnes & Noble yesterday and will most likely snag it next time I am buying. I flipped through it and it looks like a good addition to the library, IMO.

I'll throw another vote in for The Pregnancy Book. All my pregnancy books are in storage (this pregnancy wasn't "planned" per se), and it's killing me! I took The Pregnancy Book out of the library and am loving it. (I also took out The Girlfriend's Guide, and cannot recommend that. At all.)

I also just read Skinny Bitch Bun in the Oven (a vegan book, fyi), just for fun, and it had some interesting info.

Looking forward to re-reading Adventures in Natural Childbirth by Janet Schwegel, Birthing from Within, Ina May's Guide to Childbirth... and oh man, there are countless others I have for my doula library. We move in a month, and I can't wait to crack that box open and oggle those beautiful books.

Non-baby related, I just read Jane Eyre again (love!) and A Homemade Life. Oh! And Consuming Kids, which was really good.

I just finished "Spiritual Midwifery", and when my sister comes to visit this summer I'll have her bring back my "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth" that I loaned her when she was pregnant. I really liked "Girlfriends Guide" when I was pregnant with my first, but I was a very different person then, and looking back I think the attitudes in that book are a lot what lead me to opt for induction at 41 weeks.

Yeah, I have the GFs guide, too and I flipped through it recently and thought "it's terrible!". I never went much for that attitude; mainly I have it because I wanted to see how the other half lives, lol. No wonder maternity care is in such a mess!

My MM&Madness is loaned out right now. I remember that as being a very consuming read.

Has anyone read Marsden Wagner's "Born in the USA"? It definitely had an impact on me!

I'm reading "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth" and have up next "Spiritual Midwifery". They will be my fuel for a fully educated and empowered birth, which is what I wanted the first time but unfortunately wasn't prepared for.

Aside from my standby pregnancy and birth books, most of which are listed above, I'm re-reading a book that I really love: Waiting for Birdy by Catherine Newman. It's just so darn hilarious and she's such a talented writer. She's an AP mom and in the book, is expecting her second child. I don't usually re-read books, but this one is even better the second (or third) time.

I just finished Your Best Birth by Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein. Good book. A lot like the movie, but I enjoyed it. I'm reading a Bradley Method book right now, waiting for Ina May's Guide to Childbirth which I ordered along with Birthing From Within. I've enjoyed the Dr. Sears' books in the past. I'm going to add some of the suggestions here to my list.

last go round I read Spiritual Midwifery, Ina may's Guide to Childbirth, The Complete Organic Pregnancy, Birthing From WIthin, Special Delivery (focus more on Homebirth), THinking WOman's Guide...hmm...what else? I cant remember. I purchased all of these so I will likely re-read. I am wanting something new to read though and want at least one new pregnancy book to take on vacation in 2 weeks.
