Title: "Come Softly, Sweet Lucina"

Fiction or non: Non - woman wrote it in the 50s about her experience birthing 7 babies painlessly and unattended (only place you can get it is through www.unassistedbirth.com) unless you can find it in a library

Do you like it, love it, or eh: I love it

Why? It's a hoot, she has all kinds of funny reccomendations like wearing girdles and drinking whisky throughout labor - but it is very inspirational at the same time.

Would you recommend? Yes, if you like reading people's thoughts from other time periods and are interested in the topic.
Title: The Natural Pregnancy Book, by Aviva Jill Romm

Fiction or non: non

Do you like it, love it, or eh: like it

Why? It has a lot of foo-foo recommendations about bonding with your baby and getting in touch with your body. Good philosophical stuff. It also has some good explanations of "this is why you need to eat this" instead of just lists of stuff to eat and vague threats of what will happen if you don't.

Would you recommend? yes
Title: Omnivore's Dilemma and Not Buying It

Fiction or non: both are non

Do you like it, love it, or eh: love both

Why? I'm a non-fiction junkie. They're both well written, interesting critiques on modern life.

Would you recommend? Absolutely! Two enthusiastic thumbs up to both books!

Title: Finn Family Moomintroll

Fiction or Non: fiction

Do you like it, love it, or eh: eh it is fun

Why? not very exciting but thats good i get to caught up in exciting fiction and won't put books down until i finish them and it messes up my sleep. this i find a bit boring so it doesn't mess up my sleep. i find it kinda comforting. it is a kids book and i like kids books a lot.

Would you recommend it? only to people who like strange children's books. i know so many people who enjoy the moomin books that i tend to recommend them but not to just anyone.

soon i plan to read birth from within and some other books i picked up at the library today including a book about making baby toys and one about monotremes and marsupials.

Title: "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls
amazon

Fiction or non: Non -- although I usually read only fiction.

Do you like it, love it, or eh: I could not put it down! I had to force myself at like 2AM!

Why? The story was just fascinating.

Would you recommend? Totally
Title: The Bitch in the House by Cathi Hanoaer
amazon

Fiction or non: Non -- it's a collection of essays on being a woman, wife, mom, etc.

Do you like it, love it, or eh: Loved it! I didn't relate to every story, but it was very interesting, and there are some amazing writers who contributed.

Why? I read one essay at a time so I didn't feel like I had to stay up all night and follow a zillion characters!

Would you recommend? Totally.
Title: Body Surfing by Anita Shreve
amazon

Fiction or non: Fiction

Do you like it, love it, or eh: Liked it a LOT.

Why? Interesting story, great writer -- there's always a big twist at the end.

Would you recommend? Totally.

I am also reading The Omnivore's Dilemma and I also love it. So 4 enthusiastic thumbs up total for this one!
It is very informative, and the author has a unique sense of humor that makes this one a page turner. He traces where several different meals he eats have come from, in order to better understand food choices and their greater impact. It's heightened my awareness already in a fantastic way, and I'm only 1/4 of the way through it!

I just finished it too and feel so inspired. It really jazzed me up for birth! (I had a disappointing experience last time.) She really makes you believe in your body.

There's no way my DH would read it though.
However, I made him look at some of the photos, and he said: "Yes, Suzanne, I saw a baby come out of your vagina -- those pics aren't going to shock me." lol.

Title: Waiting for Birdie, by Catherine Newman

Fiction or Non: Non

Do you like it, love it, or eh? Love it.

Why? It is really, really funny. I was trying to read it while putting DD down for naps but I kept giggling which she found very distracting. It's an autobiographical sort of journal by the pregnant mom of a toddler. Seriously, this will make you laugh, no matter what.

Would you recommend it? Absolutely. I keep circulating it around my friends and then getting it back for me. They all have the same reaction--belly laughter.
