DD will be 2 in October, and I'm needing some ideas for birthday & Christmas gifts for her. She really doesn't seem to like toys all that much -- she much prefers playing with things she shouldn't!
I think books, toddler-friendly art supplies & musical instruments might be best for her, but I'm looking for more specific products. Links would be especially great! TIA.

A lockbox! This is expensive, but it holds up really well and is a fabulous, open-ended toy. It's used as garages, zoo cages, houses, and home for endless other treasures.

FWIW, we had a less-expensive one initially, and it fell apart in less than a month.

Have fun shopping!

All my DS plays with are cars. All day long he says vrrrooooooom, vrrrooommm & pushes a Tonka truck, a mathcbox car, a hotwheels car. Heck he'll even push a french fry & pretend it's a car

He also likes knocking down some foam blocks I picked up off discount school supply, playing with their kitchen, pushing the shopping cart & baby stroller. Of course he also loves playing in all my bowls.

My son, who's father is a computer programmer, no less, will spend HOURS with his Little Touch Leap Pad, his big sister's My First Leap Pad, and her Barbie Learning Laptop. I swear, if this child was born before batteries were invented I don't know what he'd play with! My daughter loved wooden toys, dolls, and stuffed animals at age 2. She still does at age 5!

my guy is really into wooden puzzles at the moment, he has an alphabet one (two actually, one that talks and another that does not) from melissa & doug that he dumps and puts back at least a few times every day. he also has one with different vehicles and another one of shapes.

outside he plays with a bunch of old Tonkas (dumptruck frontloader digger etc) that used to belong to his dad.

Notice that all of these are messy!

yeah, can you get a dog? DS's favorite toy, by far is our youngest dog (still strong enough to ride
)

Other than that, he LOVES the toy stroller my step-mom got him last x-mas. looks kind of like this one: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...entPage=search

My dd loves toys, and loves playing with things she shouldn't! LOL

We got her an easel for Christmas (she was 16 months) and I kept going back and forth on it, but I had a coupon! She loves it. I don't think a day has gone by since that she hasn't used it for at least a couple minutes. It sits in our living room and has chalk for the chalkboard side and markers for the paper side. We got the Melissa and Doug one and it's adjustable. Most others I saw were a little to tall for her.

She also loves play doh. We have a little kitchen set for it, and her favorite thing is putting things on the plates, trays, and pans and cooking them in the oven. And to get to use plastic scissors, knives and a pizza cutter (or rotary cutter, since she wants to cut fabric like mom!) to "cut" the play doh.

She loves puzzles. She's moved on from the peg puzzles (one shape, one slot) to jigsaws and I much prefer the wooden ones that have a tray (and so does she). Melissa and Doug make 4 different 12 piece ones (pets, farm, vehicles and construction) and they sell them at Toys R Us even. We've found other 16 piece ones at zoos that she really likes, too.

She loves trains, we have some Brio and IKEA stuff, and are slowly accumulating more.

Her kitchen set. We just have a small ALEX brand stove/sink thing. She loves the Melissa and Doug cutting foods set. And their spice rack and sauces?. The spices are fun because the lids come off and there's something inside that makes a noise when you shake them.

She also has a wooden push cart, shopping cart and baby doll stroller that she loves pushing around the house with various items in.

My son LOVES the Schleich Animals!!

He also loves books and puzzles. At our house a puzzle is of course puzzles and things like shape sorters, latch boards, etc.

Good luck finding some great toys/activities for your dd! Sometimes it is pretty hit or miss with us. We have a bunch of unused toys upstairs that I sometimes think of getting rid of.

My son LOVES wooden push/pull toys. He seems to prefer the push version (as he can see it in front of him vs. looking behind him to see the toy moving). He took his "slappy duck" everywhere for about 6 months and still loves it a year later (he got it for his 2nd birthday). This website has a few nice ones: http://store.wokits.com/inpuandputo.html

The wooden push duck is similar to the one we have... the croco looks fun too! And the trotto wooden horse!

My dd just loves her doll carriage/stroller. She will push anything and everything around in it all day long. I even got her another cheapo one to keep outside since she loved it so much... seriously, she'll put anything in it just to push it.

She also loves balls, stickers, her play kitchen and play food, and cars. Everything else is just secondary to these things, and I have to say, it's been that way for a while.
