With my twins I had a history of frequent BH starting at 18 weeks. Anywhere from 2-10 min apart. I had a lot of monitoring, some medication until finally I just started ignoring them because luckily they were not doing anything as far as putting me in labor. I was hoping with a singleton pregnancy I wouldn't have to deal with this.

Well I am 24 weeks and getting them again. I went shopping with my niece yesterday for too long and think I overdid it. Starting last night I was getting them every 10 min and I am getting them frequently today. I DO NOT want to go to the hospital. I am very against taking terbutaline, excessive u/s etc this pregnancy unless it is absolutely necessary (I hate meds anyway plus my son has developmental delays that I can't help wondering if it is because of all my interventions last pg).

So my question, is there anything I can do to slow down BH's besides the usual rest and liquids? Would calcium help? Any other vitamin, mineral or herb I could take to help?

Just so everyone knows I will of course go in if I feel like something is wrong but at this point I just want to slow these down on my own.

Sorry this was so long, thanks!!!

You could try taking a drink of wine or beer. There is one story in Spiritual Midwifery where a mother had to be constantly drinking alcohol to keep her labor from starting too early.
: I wouldn't necessarily recommend that, but I know of women who have had an alcoholic beverage + resting to decrease frequent early labor contractions.

But they're *not* early labor contractions. They're BH contractions. I think it would be very risky -- unnecessarily so -- to start drinking.

Is it premature labor or do you just have a energetic uterus?!

You can go buy your last preganancy. If you did not have cervical change you were not in labor and therefore no interventions are necessary.

I know of many women who just feel it more in thier pregancies. I know mama who would get BH contractions lasting up to 2-3 minutes. But it meant nothing. They were just toning contractions and perfectly normal for her. She rested, drank lots of water and took it all in stride.

I did not have any cervical changes last time at all. That is why I am not freaking out this time. But I am a bit concerned because I am getting 6+/hour for the last 24 hours.

I was just afraid to compare this to last pregnancy because everyone says every pregnancy is different kwim? I will just keep taking it easy unless anyone else has any suggestions.
Thanks!

you mentioned overdoing it, so obviously I'd try to avoid that (easy to do with *two* 2yos, yeah right huh?).

Personally I haven't found much of anything that worked to keep all my bh at bay, or the weeks of prelabor. I just think that's the way my body works.
