i have a few skeins of wool. when i purchased them, i didnt know i was going to have another boy!
also, i dont know if i have enough for a soaker on teh yarn that woudl be ok for a boy soaker.

here is waht i have:

classic Elite Yarns (made in Peru). 100% wool. color: pink. 110 yards. I have 2 of these.

koigu Kpppm. 100% merino wool. hand painted (this is awesome). 175 yards. i have 2 of these.
i really wanted to do a med/large soaker with this. is there a pattern that woudl suffice for that?

elsebeth Lavold Classic AL. 50& baby alpaca and 50% merino wool. this is a soft white (think Irish knit sweaters). 109 yards. i have 2 of these.
i really wanted to do a med/lg soaker with this to.

if you know of a pattern that i should use (i only own the F&F one that isnt free), please let me konw if you think i have enough yard in the last 2 descriptions i gave.

and what could i make with the yarn at the top? would that be good to make a hat for myself? if so, what pattern? im getting a little beyond basic, but not by much.

tia,
rach

Okay. Starting at the easy bits:
I don't think your Koigu is going to be thick enough to give you a proper soaker, but there are some awesome patterns around knitted in sock-weight merino. And I promise, not too hard either. Try checking in your library for one of Debbie Bliss's books.
I haven't tried an alpaca soaker before, but you have enough yardage.
And the last question depends on what kind of hats you like to wear...

thanks for the heads up on teh Koigu. its so very pretty!!!

im not a library person. i just cant seem to return books and end up with huge fines, which is the reason i just buy them!

i have several books but just dont know what to look to make with this amount of yarn and type...i guess im at the point where im venturing beyond the soakers and really trying to figure out what types of yarn are good for what projects, kwim??

The soft white yarn can be hand dyed too, use kool-aid or wilton's dyes. I think you have enough for a soaker, maybe shorts. The koigu is sock weight? You can either find a sock weight pattern or you can use 2 strands together to make a thicker yarn. With the pink, if all else fails, the trading post...

: I love all the enabling going on around here. You came here looking for a soaker pattern, you leave thinking about handknit socks for yourself.
But, to be honest, baby socks don't take much yarn- so you might have enough to make a pair for both of you.

Knitty has a lot of nice looking sock patterns. I am working on a pair from the book Sensational Knitted Socks right now. I made sure that I really loved knitting socks before I bought the book though. Once you get the basics of sock knitting down you can do both at once using magic loop. The universal pattern flapjack linked is great, I will be trying it out with my next pair of socks.
