What can I take for this "cold"?

So, yesterday I was running late to see our new house and ran out in the cold with damp hair and no hat and by about 8pm last night I knew that was a bad idea. Sore throat, achy muscles and nasal congestion. Lovely. I can't afford to feel like crub this week, I have waaaay too much to do.... Mary Kay meeting and work tomorrow, signing our lease tomorrow, packing all week, moving Saturday, not to mention I have a 20 month old to take care of.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I might speed along the healing process, or at least relive the nasal congestion? I'm open to most things... herbs, supplements, even OTC stuff if it's safe for pregnant women..... please help

well, homeopathy is completely safe during pregnancy.

Do you feel feverish at all? ie: do you think it's the flu? I personally only get achy muscles with the flu but everyones different.

What's your nasal discharge like? Clear egg white or yellow or brown or blood tinged? Are you stuffy on both sides? what makes it worse? what makes it better? any sinus heachache? pls describe

sore throat: does it hurt when you swallow? drink? eat? either side feel worse than the other?

what's your mood like? how does it differ from your usual self...meaning what is more pronounced?

so, if you anwer those questions, I can figure out a remedy for your acute stage, if you'd like

I felt a bit feverish earlier in the day, but not hot...does that make sense? The muscle ache has been pretty much isolated to the top of my neck right near the back of my head. The nasal discharge has been thick and yellowish (this morning) and clear pretty much the rest of the day. My throat hurts most when I have a lot of mucous build-up (like when i first woke up). I feel weakened, but I'm thinking that's from all of my energy being split between the pregnancy and trying to heal. Mood... less patient than normal, I was pretty iritable last night but the iritablity seems to have lessened thankfully.
I love Boiron's Cold Calm (same people who make the flu one with the funny name).... if congestion is a huge issue, try steaming with fresh sage.... works AMAZINGLY.
Feel better!!!
I can sympathize; I've had a nasty cold all week. For my sore throat: tea with honey and lemon. Or a dish of ice cream.
Nasal congestion: Breathe Right strips! And for my headache, a Tylenol. Hope you feel better soon!

Ok, it's hard to repertorize via online but I found two remedies that match your symptoms. Here's some excerpts from my book. I'm thinking you should go with Gelsemium. Pulsatilla has a strong emotional state of weepiness, neediness, wants lots of attention etc. Unless you are feeling that way, which you didn't indicate was so, I'd go with the Gelsemium. I would try getting a 30C potency and take it every 4 hours stopping as soon as you feel healing has begun. Do not continue the remedy after this point. If you feel it begins to work and then it stops, take one more dose. If you feel no relief whatsoever, then it's the wrong remedy.

Gelsemium -- for colds that have gradual onset with watery nasal discharge that causes irritation, a feeling of fullness or tickling in the nose and/or the back of the throat, muscle aches, fatigue, lack of energy, lightheadedness or spaciness, and a headache with pain in the back of the head
Pulsatilla -- for coughs and nasal congestion with thick, yellow-green mucus that does not burn the skin; symptoms tend to worsen in warm, stuffy rooms and when the person is lying on his or her back; this remedy is most appropriate for children (even newborns) and adults who are weepy, have mood swings, and are easily influenced by others

Most health food stores will have both the remedies above...they are commonly used. I hope you feel better

Alpha CF by B&T is a great homeopathic cold/flu remedy...
The only thing with homeopathics is you need to take them as soon as you start getting symptoms. Also, limit your 'handling' of each pill...pop them out onto a spoon...
