i can't for the life of me find a signing thread ANYWHERE so please feel free to re-direct me if needed! here's a list of signs haye knows now! he is a signing fanatic. (he's 20 months old) ...i'm sure i won't be able to remember them all but here goes!

bug
dog
hat

baby
milk
juice
water
cheese

he has also made up his own sign for dance (puts his hands over his ears like headphones and dances
) and beer
: (no, we don't give him any!
)

...he signs along to most of the signing time videos but doesn't watch it often enough to have retained it all yet

so tell me, what are your little ones signing! i love teaching haye new signs, and he loves to learn them.

Somewhere around 18 months we stopped trying to count as dd had well over 100 signs.

She still has them now, but doesn't use them nearly as often.

If you spend much time around signing families, you will see very young toddlers signing pretty fluently. I am always shocked when a 18 month old will ask me for the blue truck because it is his favorite and his brother is 4 and he likes red fire trucks and balls and that he also needs to eat crackers . . . . .

My twins are more fluent than I am
: Because my oldest is hard of hearing we are becoming a signing family and are becoming friends with other signing families. I often have to ask my kids to sign for me!

We never used sign when DS was a baby, but he's recently (at 2.5yo) become interested in sign language (even though he has an extensive spoken vocabulary). I took a few sign language classes in college, so I've taught him:

milk
more
all done
cow
dog
cat
horse
fish
turtle
eat
hungry
thirsty
mommy
daddy
boy
girl
water
play
friend
love
please
happy

Wow, it seems like a lot when I type it out! I would have estimated that he knew 5-10 sign words, but it's more than 20! He thinks it's hilarious that he can communicate with his hands. Sometimes we'll sit in the rocking chair with a sippy cup of milk and he'll sign "milk" and then start laughing hysterically when I give it to him. He'll sign "more milk" over and over and just laugh and laugh between sips, then finally sign "all done." It's so cute.

Our 14 month old uses more than 50 now, so we've stopped keeping track.

She's not very verbal at all for the most part, but is better at signing than I am -- my husband and I both have to remind each other what she's singing sometimes, so apparently she's now smater than us both.

Wow, my dd is exactly the same age and only has a few. We've used them consistently with her and we know she understands a bunch but she really seems to take her time using them herself.

She uses:

Mama
Dada
Milk
More
all done
no
water
baby
eat

She has also imitated us when we've done please and thank you but I'm pretty sure she had no idea what it meant, it was more like playing Simon says to her.

At almost 15 months ds has 78 signs (that we can think of right now). He just started signing colors and for the past month has been signing two words together (daddy work, blue car, etc). He seems to pick it up really quick but comes by it honest since I was a Deaf Ed teacher for 6 years and I am fluent in ASL. We also just started play group with my other Deaf Ed teacher friends some of who have Deaf children so I am hoping he will pick up more. It is so great to hear that all of you have little signers.
We totally need a signing thread!!

We don't know VERY many signs, but ds "got it" about 3 months ago and started really signing, and now he learns very quickly any new signs I show him. In his repertoire:

milk
more
drink
eat
daddy
dog
all done
bath
bed
book
cracker
diaper.

He was using the same sign for mommy as milk - haha! I wonder why!!

I'm so glad you started this thread. We started a bit late (around 9 months) and she only did nurse for a while but around 13 months she started signing like crazy and now she does

nurse
eat
hungry
stroller (
)
cookie
help
daddy
bird
drink
shoes
sleep
read
wet
raining
airplane
car
more

I am SO glad we do signs. I get out baby sign books from the libary and we look at them together and practice signs. I am amazed at what she comes up with. Like she confuses "wet" and "rain" all the time. When her diaper is wet, she signs "rain" and points to her pants! Like it's raining in her pants
She used to sign "airplane" for all things that fly (like birds) but now she knows they are different. I find it a wonderful way to communicate with my little one. Like we have our own language.

i forgot hurt, wind, and poop.

more
duck
book
bath
sun
& a few more I can't remember. He's really trying very hard right now to speak & that has me oh so happy
