I know a lot of mama's here don't allow their children to watch tv or limit their time, but I was wondering when they *do* watch are there any toons that just irritate you? My DD gets to watch an hour of PBS toons in the am while I"m getting around, making breakfast, and getting ds nursed. The toon I don't like is Cailou. Not b/c of content but b/c I can't stand the little boys whiny voice, it just grates on my nerves. I also don;t care for the narrators voice. But of course, DD loves it. What's your "caliou"?

We LOVE Blue's Clues and Dora. Right now we're into The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. But I can't stand Spongebob!! The older boys sometimes like to watch that, but I try to keep it off.

I don't let my son watch Cailou because I think the kid is such a whiny brat. JUst don't see the need to have that behavior modeled for him.

I HATE Spongebob and RugRats.

I never let dd watch them but whenever I see them on someone else's TV I always wince. I did have to instruct one babysitter that dd wasn't allowed to watch anything on the Cartoon Network not because dd wanted to watch it but because the babysitter did!

I have never seen an episode of SpongeBob... what age group is that for? Just curious, not planning on letting my 4yo ds watch it... We like noggin.

And Rugrats is not for little kids! I wouldn't want my 4yo to watch that show!!

Max and Jack are not allowed to watch Spongebob (nothing inherently wrong with it it is just dumb) Caillou (it's a little young for them and he is SOOOOO whiny) or any of the violent type cartoons (Pokemon, Beyblade, Digimon, etc.) They also aren't really allowed to watch anything on Cartoon Network (except Scooby Doo and Tom & Jerry) They aren't allowed to watch TV until 5 and then they watch Cyberchase and Arthur (I have issues with the name calling but they know it's wrong and say "They said stupid, that is not a nice word to say") and then they like Full House @ 6 and then the TV goes off again

I think Spongebob is for 4-10 yr olds but I am not sure

I really can't stand SpongeBob- and I admit, I've never seen an episode!! Just something about the look irritates me so much. DD and I had a funny conversation about it the other day.

DD: Mom, who don't you like SpongeBob?
Me: Oh...well, he just looks so strange!!
DD: Well, your husband is strange, and you like him!

I try and avoid Calliou because of the whining...but we have seen it on occassion. Absoutly NO Rugrats (DS has seen ads and says "we don't watch that show right mommy - it is only for bigger kids" ) - in fact no Nick Jr. AT ALL because of commericials. I have Dora and Blues Clues on video though - we like them. We mostly only watch Disney in the am or PBS - but if I had to choose between some PBS (mostly Auther for reasons mentioned) and Disney I would choose Disney. DS LOVES Stanley and it is a great show for him....and the other shows we have watched are pretty harmless (Wiggles and Jo Jo's Circus) Oh but Roli Poli Olly bugs the heck out of me for some reason....

We don't have cable, but my mom lets DD watch anything she wants at her house () so DD is always running around talking about shows that she loves, and I can't stand. My list is growing..

Dora
DragonTales
Caillou
Rugrats
Spongebob

There's more I just can't remember squat right now. :LOL

I know everyone loves Dora, but I can't stand it! I hate the way she "waits" for an answer and then goes on assuming the child provided the right one. It's like fake-interactive to me. Plus dd gets freaked out about Swiper Fox.

We like Clifford. It's just about the only kids TV that doesn't get on my nerves. Plus it has positive messages without being to saccharine.

I hate Dora with a passion... the uber-perkiness, the yelling tone of voice, the dubious educational value, the fake interactiveness, the weird time-space breaks... the baby tiger is falling out the tree onto a spiky bush, but we have time to get out the map (say map! louder!), find a shortcut, get a rope out of the backpack (say backpack!), stop swiper the fox, and still save him just as he falls... aaaagghhh can you tell that my kids just love it... I just tell myself that at least they are not watching ads... or Barney... but I can't wait until we move onto something else. Even Boohbah would be preferable, even with that annoying soundtrack and their lame costumes and eye-wiggling.

How's this for torture... we have a Caillou CD which is on high rotation in the car... went on a long trip recently and was seriously considering stabbing myself in the eyeball with a pen to take my mind off it... but it keeps them quiet... oh well!

btw I love Max and Ruby! Ruby is so well-meaning... and Max has such good little mischievous looks on his rabbit face...

Oh you poor thing!!!
I can't stand Boobah. Well, not the boobah's themselves (are they
*boobahs* or what?), but the grandma/auntie/uncle/sister/brother skits. the way grandma walks really bothers me. And she always looks like she's not really there. okay, so I know children really like animated faces, but it's creepy. Like the baby in the sun on teletubies - strange.

We have a no Calliou rule in our house. But I have to put a new spin on this thread....what do you LOVE???

We LOVE Laurie Berkner (i think that is her last name). She does the music time on Noggin. Her songs are so fun and they make us all get up and dance. Here is her site http://www.twotomatoes.com/ It took us awhile to find it, but we are going to order some of her CDs. They are just really fun songs and she is so much fun! Her site said that she is pregnant...yea for her!

Sorry if I was gushing...but we really do love the songs.

We like Clifford and Max and Ruby(too cute) and I do unfortuantely let them watch a few other shows that I really hate, like the rugrats! The past couple of weeks, they have not been watching much aside from our favorites that I listed and a couple of overs like Blue's Clues, and no more of them violent ones!
