I read the other day that powered detergent should be used over liquid. So I thought I would ask all you pros out there. Do you use powered or liquid detergent? and what brand do you use? and why? Thanks for all your help in advance.

A combination.

My soak pail gets powdered Tide Free.

We wash everything (clothes & dipes) in liquid Tide Free.

I like the liquid in the wash because it mixes in better - I find that even using a small amount of the powder doesn't always get it dissolved. But I like the powder in the soak pail - it just seems to work into the stains better.

Why Tide Free ? Because it's free of dyes & perfumes, and it works for us, and nobody reacts to it.

BigBelly - can you back up that statement about the carcinogens and fiberglass please ? I'd like to see the proof since Tide is the detergent my family uses.

Thanks

I used to use Tide...but my youngest started reacting to it - so that was out. I didn't want to switch to the free & clear versions...using free & clear detergents on my diapers scares me lol - I don't want any problems with buildup or repelling fleece
So now I use cheapo detergent from costco substituted with sportswash about once a week or so. I also use a tiny bit of calgon with the detergent.

Lizabear, I did a www.google.com search using the terms...

Tide detergent carcinogens fiberglass

Google gave me just 4 hits on those search words and only one of them (the one I linked) talks about Tide. The site mentions Tide and fiberglass, but not Tide and carcinogens.

http://www.onetiredpup.com/toxins.html

I did another Google search using the terms...

National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health Tide detergent

Many more links came up, but I didn't see a link to the original study done by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. I do not know anything about this organization. I need to get off the computer and am not really in the mood to search out the NIOSH to see who they are.

I did browse a couple of the links and the study by the NIOSH is cited as a source for determining that Tide contains fiberglass. I still didn't see Tide and carcinogen together.

Hope this helps...

PDe

Edited to say I just sent Tide a lengthy message asking about the detergent and fiberglass. If I receive a response, I'll share it. It will be interesting to read what they say.
