My DS's first birthday is on Friday, and I still haven't gotten him a present!

We are really low-key about these events, so I don't want to go all out and have some huge party. I'm just going to make him something cute to eat, like a cupcake, and we're going to take some pictures.

BUT, I would like to get him something special... I just can't think of anything good. Since he doesn't understand what's going on, this would be a good year to get him some sort of keepsake instead of a toy, but I have NO ideas!!

Someone please help!

HIs favorite toys were the playmobile 123 farm set, and teh Doug and Melissa Hide and Seek Magnetic Farm. It looks like a wooden puzzle but has doors to open with a little removable animal in each door. Also, the Toddler Tower nesting blocks.

http://store.playmobilusa.com/is-bin...2%2e3_us&PLS=0

http://search.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bi...I1.x=9&I1.y=10

We got DS (now 17 mo) a clickity clack handcrafted wooden toy from www.toanotoyworks.com. Read about the woods he uses and the non toxic paints etc. The clickity clack mower has a really nice sound. We had it wood burned with DS's name and the date of his first b'day so it is a keepsake.
At first he wasn't really into it (too young and just started walking) but now he loves it and pushes it all around the house. It has a nice sound so it is not annoying to DH or I and it is personalized for a great keepsake. Good luck!

(Very fast service. This guy is well known by Ap'ers in my area!)

My parents got DD a fantastic Community Playthings scooter ($$$!) and my brother and his girlfriend got her a FisherPrice 'popcorn popper' thing to push around the house (and some new clothes). DH had just gotten back from a 3 1/2 week killer business trip in France and brought her a very realistic-looking marmot puppet which has been her favorite for a long time. I didn't do anything except clean the house and order pizza and cake for a little party to celebrate---was too exhausted from being the single working mom for almost a month.

For me, DD's turning one was a very emotional time. I felt all choked up when we sang Happy Birthday to her and felt like we'd really reached a major milestone together. It amazed me that in 12 months she'd gone from a half-blind little slug to a laughing, babbling, almost-walking little girl.

Have fun!

We got my dd this wagon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...=toys&n=507846 and she absolutely LOVES it! Also a big hit with her 3 yo & 5 yo cousins, so I think it will get much use over the years.
