I am six wks and having a recurring night pain that is a dull achey lower back pain that comes in waves; and almost a heartburny thirsty feeling. It comes at EXACTLY the same time every night ... btw 8-10pm. I feel like taking a deep breath makes it go away, but sometimes it will only go away if I fall asleep. Sometimes I am conscious of the pains in my sleep..

But is it possible that this is what contractions may feel like? I've been calling it my night sickness (as opposed to morning sickness). I am not nauseus (sp) or throwing up or anything.. just these pains..

if these pains are contractions is that bad?

you won't be having contractions at six weeks pregnant unless i would think it were a miscarriage.

to answer your question: contractions, when you are at the end of your pregnancy, feel like intense intense cramping, squeezing your uterus so hard that it takes your breath away. i was able to continue to function pretty well through mine, i went to work, i drove home, i even got a little sleep. but they build and build in intensity, and get closer together so you get to the point where they are almost continuous, that's what's so tiring about labor contractions. eventually the pain of labor contractions gets so bad that the only relief is to push your baby out. as soon as you get the baby out, the pain goes away! i think that, done naturally without medications, labor contractions are the body's only way to separate that baby from you. if it didn't hurt so much, you would not push that baby out. but when it does hurt like that, you have like no choice but to push the baby out, if only to get you out of the world of hurt that is labor contractions!

That early in my pregnancy I had all sorts of discomforts- aches, pains, pressure, indigestion. It never hurts to put a call into your care provider, but to me it doesn't sound like contractions or anything to worry about, just normal early pregnancy symptoms. I agree to make sure you're getting enough to drink.

I agree with PP, at this stage what you're probably feeling is your uterus stretching and growing. With DS1 I didn't know I was pregnant until about 8 weeks because I mistook implantation bleeding for a period, and I could have sworn up and down that I was about to start my period again, except I didn't. I'm 5w6d now, and also have kind of a nagging uneasyness in my low back/pubic area.
