Well I bought a brand new portable dishwasher tomorrow and dh will be bringing it home today.

I stopped at the store today to get some dishwasher detergent and I was shocked that every single one of them had phosphates. I needed to get something because I really need to wash dishes today so I chose the one that had the least amount (Palmolive). I got the smallest container that they had planning to come back and ask y'all what I should use instead.

So what is a good, safe phosphate free dishwasher detergent?

We buy all our cleaning products from the health food store. The brand "Earth Friendly Product's" is my personal favorite, but there usually are several other options.
Enjoy your new dishwasher!

I use Seventh Generation dishwashing detergent. It works great. But I do have to rinse off my dishes before I stick them in the dishwasher.

I use the Ecover tablets. They work great and I don't have to mess w/ liquid. And I always wash on the energy saver mode.

My sister just got done making some using this recipe here. The amount they say in there does not work for them so it may take some tweaking to get the right amount but she's liking it.

I LOVE Mrs Meyers Clean Day detergent. I buy the Lavender kind. It smells my whole kitchen up like Lavender. I use Mrs Meyers a lot. I use the all purpose cleaner, laundry soap, and counter top spray.

http://www.mrsmeyers.com/default.aspx

Alot of people just use hot water and vinegar in the rinse. I've tried it and I seriously couldn't tell the difference between them and the ones I used traditional detergents on.
