My 3.5 year old son hass cavities. There are 4 on the bottom and I couldn't get a good look at the top. They are on the back teeth. I feel so horribly guilty, like I haven't taken care of him properly. I've never had a cavity in my life! Now what do I do? I don't want him to have metal fillings. And how in the world would they do that kind of dental work on a 3 year old? He gets hysterical when we try to put garlic oil in his years, totally hysterical, screaming like he's terrified. I am so stressed out and sad. Not to mention the fact that we don't have the money to pay for the work. But we'll have to figure it out.

I'd go see a pediatric dentist. They can use laughing gas to help calm him, from what I hear, at that age. Also, you can get white composite fillings.

It will be ok. Some kids just tend to get cavities and other don't. My dd, 20 months, just went under general anesthesia for 5 crowns and a filling.
I know it is depressing, but it isn't your fault.

Have you checked out Xylitol? We are trying it since it seems to be a pretty good alternative to flouride. Read around on the dental archives. Especially on the remineralization thread. Lots of good info there.

Hang in there and don't panic. Your son will be ok. Hugs! I know it is hard.
