Hi ladies,
I had posted a couple of days ago about my little ones rashes and the stinky dipes. They are in sposies until I get this diaper situation fixed. I am heading to the store and wanted to know what should I buy to wash them in? I think I have hard water and do not know what to buy for that and I have used all detergents except Tide and they all give my kiddos rashes and do not help the stink, do you think Dreft or something like that would work? All my dipes are CPF's. I also have a front loader, if that makes a difference. I am at my wits end with the dipes and the rashes, please help. TIA

Sounds like you're not having fun!
I don't have a front loader, but I do have hard water. A good idea is to have some Calgon around to add in. I use it just once in a while to strip my diapers, but if your water is very hard you might need it all the time to help the soap do its job.
I personally am not a Tide fan, it's too sudsy for me (even with hard water it takes like 6 rinses to get it out). I like to use something 'green' - here in Canada that means Simply Clean. I would look for something with no added dyes or fragrances and that ought to help with the rashes.
Another handy dandy item to have around is Tea Tree Oil or grape seed extract or another essential oil (?) to add to the wash. Cuts down on stink and TTO/GSE is also antibacterial.

I'd try eaither the dreft or a "green" detergent I use eaither sunandearth (my Fav) or Dreft all others give DD a bad rash.
My DD is also in sposies right now
: because I just stripped all her cloth ones and they are still drying. She's already got a rash from the Huggies
So I'm hoping to get her back in cloth in the next few hours.

Thanks soo much for your suggestions

Now about the Calgon, do I put that in at the beginning of the wash, along with detergent? Thanks again

a urine rash not a detergent rash?? Looks like youve used everything available to you detergent wise with no improvement.
Ive seen a few momma's here mention they use fleece in between their CPF's and childs skin to draw the moisture away....Have you tried this?

with prefolds i think you can be a bit more aggressive. i would use some tide in a long, cold soak and wash, then a hot wash and soak and a chlorine free color safe type bleach, lots of rinses. if that didn't work i would pop a small amt of regular bleach in there. every now and the maybe they just need that boost. sorry it is causing you so much trouble.
nak after they are cleaned to your liking you can go back to the gentler detergents until they need another boost.

Do you think it's detergent burn? I know with a front loader you need a lot less detergent and from reading here a lot of people have problems with washing dipes in a front loader, maybe search for some threads on that.

Sun and earth detergent is great
