I'm new here and it's been 7 years since I used cloth diapers. Then I had a diaper service. Now I'd like to buy them. I am leaning towards hemp, but am very naive about what is available. My baby is due in three weeks and I would like to order some diapers soon. What do I need for a newborn? What is available in hemp? Where is the cheapest place to get them? What is the best kind to use?

Thanks so much.

Please check out my informational webiste (link in my sig). I also have a page about diapering newborns:

http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kfegelman/newborn.html

I don't know if hemp is really necessary for a newborn -- it's usually fairly expensive. You might want to just get some infant cpf's, then when your baby is big enough to be in mediums, splurge for the hemp. If you want hemp even in the newborn stage, you could try making your own flat diapers using hemp fleece. I've never tried it, but apparently it doesn't fray on the edges, so you can just cut pieces out to the dimensions you want. You can order fabric from www.fullmoonbabygear.com

Growing Greens are made of hemp/fleece and I've read good reviews on them. I think several WAHM stores carry them. They have a 1 size diaper.
Little Lounging Lizards also carry a hemp fitted and prefolds.
