What do you do for extra money?

So I do stay at home but I'm hoping you working moms can help me.

We are really getting into a bad position financially. We need extra money. dh is planning to apply at several places but I'd like to help if I can too.

Here is the situation: I have a 3 yr old, I'm due in Aug/Sep, I don't have family that can watch my kids while I work, I don't have a BA/BS.....

I'm actually feeling pretty worthless as far as being able to make money for the family!

I'd be happy to baby sit but not till the baby is a bit older. I'd prefer working from home as bfing is really important to me and if dh is going to be gone at least one of us needs to be home.

Any suggestions are welcome, we need help!

Ebay is a good way to go, to make at least a little extra money. It's funny how many things we have just sitting around our house that we have never used that are sellable... old presents from our wedding, etc. And if you really get into it, you can find a niche for yourself with a particular product that you may be able to acquire for a good price, and sell for a profit on Ebay. I sell just a few things on the side, but I'm always keeping my eye out for something that I could buy a lot of and sell for a profit.

Good luck! Congratulations on the baby coming!
I've heard great things about Alpine Access from ppl who work or have worked for them. It's local for me but I don't think you have to live on the Colorado Front Range to work for them. They do customer service from home. Some of their clients are 1-800-flowers and the Disney Store. You need a high speed connection to do it.

My husband is the sahp in our house and he cleans the neighbors house once a week for a little extra cash. He typically does it while dd naps. Ds often helps.

Good luck!
A friend of mine sells Usborne books. It's sort of like a tupperware thing -- you show/sell the books at parties. They're great quality. The only thing is you have to go do shows, but my friend does them on the weekends and at night when her DH is home. You can search Usborne books online.

Personally I've been writing curriculum for a local school district at home, but it's just a lucky thing I came across as a teacher.

I've also heard of people doing medical billing out of their home. I don't know much about it, but it's pretty flexible I think.
Thanks Ashley.

I already do a home party type business.

I have looked into medical billing but it seems that it requires some education and its not easy to be able to find the jobs that allow you to work from home with the new medical privacy laws.
Do you have an extra bedroom? In my city, there are several English as a foreign language schools and homestay agencies that are always looking for families to provide a bedroom, some conversation, and 2 or 3 meals a day (dinner cooked, the others they fend for themselves) for the students. We have friends who have really enjoyed it, and it pays about $700/month.
no, unfortunately we don't have extra room for a guest.
Do you have any interesting crafts or hobbies that you do? I sew, so I take in peice work and alterations from various places around my city and do them at night and on the weekends. I also make fetish gear (Where, oh where is that embarassed smiley?) on my sewing machine and consign it at local stores and sell it on ebay. It's not something I'm personally in to, but I make a lot more money making adult diapers and leather thises and thats than I would sewing trousers and skirts. I know people who have started marketing all sorts of weird little hobbies that they do in their spare time for extra money -- crocheted hats, frosted glass mirrors, all that kind of stuff.
LOL. When I was busy making diapers for DS, I had a brief thought of making adults diapers too. I thought the market was not as saturated as that of baby dipes and the money would probably be better. :LOL Glad to see someone targeting that market!

To the OP, how about a retail job on weekends? Maybe you could work 10-12 hours week, opposite your DH. That's something I am considering, if and when I can quit my FT job.
You can also try Mystery Shopping. It pays for each shop you do, some better then others. A lot depends on where you live and how many they have in your area. I've done several that I made a decent amount of money on.

I'm also registered with an online proofreading service that pays per project.

If you are interested in either of these I can refer you.

I'm not the OP, but I'm interested in finding out more. Could you either post the info or PM me?

What do you do for extra money?

i model for the local college's art classes. all shapes / sizes welcome (that means pregnant people too
) and no experience is required.

for *quick* money, there's always the ubiquitous Yard Sale, or even the famed Bake Sale.

(i've actually been meaning to have a yard sale for quite awhile now but we can never seem to get it together.)
