I am so sick of water. I have always been a huge water drinker, but it just gets so old!

But every other drink option seems to have either:
1. lots of sugar/empty calories (juices, etc)
2. caffeine
3. artificial sweeteners

I just made a big batch of decaf iced tea and sweetened it with Splenda/sugar blend. Figured I would cut the aritificial sweetener and the sugar in half and just have a little of both. And it tastes so good. It's not water!

But I'm probably not supposed to be using Splenda, eh?

What are you guys drinking?

I don't believe in "not supposed to." If I want something that is a carcinogenic toxin, will result in Foetal Alcohol Syndrome, listeriosis, toxoplasmosis, excessive weight gain, inadequate weight gain, a hyperactive baby or any other possible ailment, then generally I have it in moderation. That said, I don't smoke, do street drugs, drink alcohol only rarely (and socially) and tend, despite everything to eat a healthy balanced diet. So I don't think the occasional pepsi max is the end of the world.
At the moment I have a jug of water in the fridge with a sprig of elderflower and some lemon slices chopped into it for flavour, some pomegranate juice which I drink with fizzy water (tastes like Pimms- worth trying) and many, many large bottles of carcinogenic squash- the only good thing you can say about it is that at least there's no artificial colourings. None of the rest is real. I also have a ginger beer bee bobbing up and down on the windowsill, some elderflower cordial maturing and I'm trying to find a recipe for strawberry lemonade. Hope some of this helps.

Gah, me too! I was just talking to one of my pregnant friends in real life about this yesterday. We've both been craving soda and slurpees. What I usually do is drink 70 ounces of water before dinner, and then at dinner I splurge with some kind of juice (apple is my fave right now), lemonade, or when I'm really feeling decadent, a root beer! God, it's heavenly. I just want something with *flavor*, ya know? Oh I also drink a lot of milk/chocolate milk, which I love.

I'm in the same boat - I usually love to drink water, but bizarrely enough, now that I need to be drinking water I kind of hate it.

What is really good for me is making a huge pitcher of tea made from 3/4 red raspberry leaf and 1/4 decaf black tea. Cold over ice with some lemon and I can guzzle it down. And of course - Red Raspberry is really wonderful for you.

Just don't forget to steep your red raspberry covered for at least 15 minutes to get the medicinal value.

Keep the suggestions coming!

I'm with flapjack! Good nutrition and hydration are important, but pregnancy shouldn't feel like an eating disorder either--too much obsessing seems counterproductive.

Thus said, I have been liking ice water more than normal. I also drink whatever juice or so on that I like, but I generally water it down by at least 50% so it's not so sweet. I am not really drinking anything in the coffee department because it just isn't really appealing to me. I drink some iced tea, and some iced tea/lemonade blends. The occasional Coke or diet pepsi. And the occasional non-alcoholic beer!

One of my favorite things is sparkling water over ice with a slice of lime. I also really like "fresh lime soda," which is my favorite beverage in India. I make a syrup by heating about 50% sugar and 50% water and dissolving the sugar. Fill a glass with ice, add the juice of one lime, fill almost to the top with sparkling water, and then add sugar syrup to taste. It's so good!!

Me, too. The first trimester I worried more and was much more "pure" in my choice of beverages. But that generally wears off by the 2nd trimester for me! I try to drink a lot of water, but it's hard - I just don't remember all of the time. I think I average about 5 tall glasses of water a day, but I also drink some organic milk, juice occasionally - especially fruit smoothies, and tall soy chais. I don't think having the caffeine from a chai a few times a week is going to hurt the baby. I also do *occasionally* have a glass of wine or half a lambic with dinner - only every few weeks though. I am totally sick of hot tea, but ice tea still sounds good - raspberry tea mixed half and half with some good juice like hibiscus and then kept in the fridge - very yummy!

Oh I forgot to mention, DH made this great smoothie-thing for me the other day, which sounds totally disgusting (or did to me, anyway) but it's *delicious*! You fill the glass half-full with vanilla soy milk, and then fill the remaining half with equal parts of cran-grape juice and orange juice (or probably any juice you like). It is SOOOO good, usually I ask him to make me one in the morning before I get up to get my body going.

For some reason it's hard for me to drink cold water, and I'm usually a huge water drinker. So right now, I'm having a cup of hot water with a slice of lemon in it. I've also got a pitcher of red raspberry leaf iced tea in the fridge. Smoothies help, too, and make me think I'm having a much more decadent milkshake.

Oh yeah, I forgot the smoothies--I guess I don't count those so much as a beverage because they're what I have for breakfast! (Followed an hour or two by some more food and then an early lunch!!) DH makes us smoothies every morning--milk, yogurt, the insides of two probiotic capsules (to fight the listeria from all the forbidden sliced turkey and soft cheese!) and then frozen fruit. Sometimes banana with a little cinnamon, sometimes mango, sometimes peach, sometimes black cherry, sometimes raspberry or mixed berry. Once in a while some innovative combination! Sometimes a little vanilla extract or sugar goes into the mix too, depending on the fruit.

I agree!!! I do drink lots of water and it is actually tasting good to me. Juice tastes too sweet right now and makes my teeth hurt. My fav smoothie is a few scoops of soft tofu, a few fresh strawberries (or whatever fruit is in season), a banana, a few tblsp of flax seed oil, whirred up in the blender and mmmm.
When I was pg with Willem I craved smoothies of just banana and water... you should really try it... actually really helps with leg cramping too because of all the potassium. and then probably the last month of that pg I would add a raw organic, (washed well before cracking) egg to the blender with the banana and water. It was delicious. A Thai woman told me that in their culture women drink a similar smoothie made of coconut milk, bananna and raw egg and it is supposed to make the baby come out clean. I thought it was a hoax but whaddya know... he came out with nearly none of the nb "cheese" on his skin!

Anyway, I also drink a bottle of Reeds extra ginger ale brew about every 3 or 4 days. It's made with honey not sugar and is so yummy, just the right combo of spicy and sweet. and other fizzy drinks are great.... they help combat the beer craving. Yes, I had a few sips of dh's beer over the weekend. Really miss it. He bought me some non alcoholic stuff... eeeeww!
flapjack I actually have been drinking that pomegranete/fizzy water drink too!

my absolute favorite is fizzy water like San Pelligrino and Perrier. Lime flavored Perrier is the absolute best!! I always order this when we go out and my friends are having alcohol. It's my "fancy drink."

I love sparkling water with a slice of lime - that's my fave. Occasionally I will have water with a bit of elderflower cordial or ribena in it, and sometimes if DH has bought root beer I'll have half a can with dinner. And I do like my morning coffee, although on the weekends when I have time to make tea I make roiboos (the current one I have has grapefruit rind in it too - yummy!)

I am not a huge sugar junky so I don't use the cordials or syrups full-strength, and I don't put sweetener in my tea or coffee. And I do occasionally have a glass of wine too.

Oh, and I do love my de-alc beer too! Yay Warsteiner!

But mostly I drink water - about 8-10 glasses a day. If you call it "tap juice" it sounds more fun :LOL

Other than LOTS of water which really quenches my thirst the best, especially since we spend alot of time outside in this heat, I drink milk with meals and have the occasional gingerale/soda water with cranberry juice as a "treat". I am a big diet Coke junkie : but have mostly avoided it this pregnancy since I don't buy it for my home and we are trying to save $$ by not buying food/drinks while out and about. Those smoothies sound good though...if only I weren't so lazy!!

Water is too bland and juice is too sweet so I do half and half. I LOVE lemonade! That is one of my biggest pregnancy cravings. I am also trying to drink atleast 3 cups of milk a day and 1 cup of Rasberry Leaf Tea. I did cheat and have some Root Beer today. I freaked when I saw there were 32mg of sugar in it but oh well!

Feh! You brits! Now that I've met my pina colada shake craving, now I'm gonna obsess over Pimms and elderflower water. You know that not all of us can have these uniquely delicious things, right? I'll have to go on a elderflower run over the pond...I really did used to bring back bottles of it on my trips.

I have never seen real elderflower here, at least. It's sort of like currant jam, something that I can't stop thinking about. Mmm. Blackcurrant jam. And bakewell tarts. And Hobnobs. And....

Drinking enough is my current bane of pregnancy. I'm supposed to be really pushing fluids b/c of the calcium oxalate in my urine (precursor to kidney stones ) but if I manage to drink what I should, I'm up half the night in the bathroom!

I drink a glass of oj every morning. I try to drink water, but I hate it...though I did really drinking it my first pg. I drink diluted juice, a Sprite here or there, and milk. When I was in the throes of this cold, I was drinking hot tea and decaf coffee and hot broth.

I guess I'm probably better off with more calories and more liquid than vice versa, but I just can't find a comfortable balance for myself. If I tell myself I can only have water, I find that by midmorning I've just quit drinking.

Mostly water, or watered down juice (50/50). I get lemonade cravings but find most of the bottled stuff too sweet. I have my pregnancy tea, too, but even the thought of boiling water in this heat to make iced tea is too much for me!

I sometimes have milk at night becuase it helps my heartburn and munchies.

I mostly drink water. Normally we drink it at room temperature, but with this pg I have been enjoying more from the fridge.

I also like iced herbal teas. For some reason I can enjoy herbal teas without sugar, but not black teas. My faves are peppermint and wild berry zinger (from Celestial Seasonings - that stuff is almost as sweet as juice). I also love RRL!

Occasionally I'll have a glass of juice or chocolate milk. I'm also ok with drinking a soda once every week or two. Usually I save it for times that we eat out, because it's so much yummier from a fountain!
