I am new to cloth...planning on cd'ing this babe coming in Jan....

Soooo....

I have learned all about woolly goodness. I love the idea of wool soakers/longies/covers and are excited about the many benefits of using wool, esp. for my little winter baby!

But, for a little baby...say 0-6 mos...what do you like to put under your wool covers? Prefolds or fitteds? Since I don't know what will work best for us I already have bought some of both...just looking for your opinions/advice...is it just a matter of taste?

You're right to get some of both. I've found that wool wraps can be used for either prefolds or fitteds, and that fitteds are slightly better for under wool soakers/longies. That said, you can certainly get away with PFs under pull-up wool... I recommend the jelly-roll fold if you do. That's been most secure for us. Do a Google search for it and you can find guides online with pics.

In short, I love unbleached Indian PFs, and then cotton fitteds of various brands: Little Beetles, Loveybums, Muttaqin Baby, and so on. HTH! Congrats, mama. I have a January babe too!

i prefer fitteds under wool as they usually contain poop better.
edited to add: what it boils down to though is that i'm lazy and i don't like to wash my wool unless it's absolutely necessary.

fitteds IMO really reduce the amount of poop blowouts onto the wool, which means i can go longer bewtween washing.

I used both. I only have a dozen fitteds but lots of prefolds, so I used those during the day and fitteds at night when I was less apt to change diapers. I also use pockets when we're out and about or at bedtime because they really last longer than prefolds or fitteds.

I'm not big into soakers until mine are older, but for new babies, I love prefolds under Kiwi Pie covers.

I prefer fitteds under knitted wool, and fitteds or prefolds/flats under wool wrap covers. I try to use the prefolds/flats only AFTER dd's daily poop though.

For fitteds, I always liked side snapping. for 0-6, ss very baby fitteds were some of my favorites. I think I woudl have liked Swaddlesbees fitteds, but those were not out when my dd was younger.
