For one, he's funny. For another, he's sensitive towards his siblings.
My 6 yr old is at the age she worries about every tiny scratch on her body. She's the Bandaid Girl--hates to see anything that might be an 'owie', so covers anything 'unusual' with a bandage.
She found a tiny mark on her arm tonight she was convinced was a splinter (the worst of the worst! for her). I kept offerring bandaids, reassurance that her body could take care ot it, hugs etc etc. (it was a teeny tiny dot of unknown origin, really. It looked like nothing and I said " I think it's just your skin" and "it looks like it won't hurt' etc etc etc). None of this comforted her, and even offerring to cover it didn't much calm her.
Finally, her 16 yr old brother soothes, 'That is not a splinter. It's a happy rainbow hippie bunny tatoo".
She knew it was not a tatoo, but she perked up and said, 'Really?" and went on her merry way. Now, she's playing-- thinking nothing of her owie. I don't know why she responded to his suggestion, when my own were more likely. I would never have thought 'tatoo'. Bunny or otherwise.
Of course, he gets a certain adoration from her that I do not. Must be a big brother thang.
