What do you recommend for a swim diaper?

What kind of swim diaper do you use? I will be going on a trip soon and need to get some ASAP. My infants swimsuit has a dipe built in but my toddler just has a regular suit so I will need something more.

Are most swim dipes AIO style or do you need to put a prefold in them? I am clueless here......... Some just look like a plastic pant with nothing in them.

How many should I have on hand? I suppose at least two so if she soils one the swimming won't be over. What works best for you?

Also, how tolerated are cloth swim dipes in public pools? I have heard some mixed things about this. Does anyone have any experiences or advice for me?

I don't want to buy the disposie swim dipes, they are nasty but don't want to sink $ into something that isn't going to work right for us.

Thanks so much,

Erika

gabbys pull on swim diapers are the only ones we like.
I found one for my dd at Target. It is really cute! They had both boys and goirls styles, plus plain white. They also had some that came with coordinating tops.

The swim diapers are designed to retain solids only. That's why they are so thin. If they were absorbant, they'd soak up the pool water. You could probably put in a prefold if you want to make sure you don't get peed on and remove it before going into the water.

In pools around here, they insist that you have a cloth swim diaper, even over the disposable kind. If there is any way to ask in advance that would be better, but I've never had a problem at a public pool.

I haven't tried them yet, but I've heard good things about Gabby's Pool Pants. So far I've just used the built in ones or the Kushies kind but I'm planning on trying out Gabby's.

We like Kushies swim dipes and I've been using a Bummis originals cover as a sd- it's great!
I've used swim dipes from Target, BRU, One Step Ahead, and I've also just used the shell to a nice trim QD AIO, or similar trim cover.

All work great. You don't want a lot of bulk, just to keep the poopies in.

we use a well-fitting fuzzi bunz without the insert. We rinse it in the shower (assuming there's no poo) and throw it in with the regular dipes.
Thanks, you have given me a fabulous starting point.

I appreciate your input.

I have a Bumpys swim dipe I found at granolamom.com for Austin that is great! His back up is the one we found at Target. The Bumpy is much softer.

I just got a Bumpy too, and while we haven't actually water tested it -- it's super cute and oh-so-soft. Wish I had ordered two...
I have a motherease swimdiaper set for my dd. We have only used it once so far and have not had an accident but I heard great things about them.

I second the empty Fuzzi Bunz! I bought some non-functional (grrr) old style FBs (all fuzzy) and they make perfect swim dipes!

We use our Bummis polar bear print as a back-up

I have one from Target and 3 bumpys for the kiddos. I haven't tried the Bumpys on them yet. For the price, the Target dipe is just fine
