How does the name "Elias" sound to you?

Just curious how it strikes other people... DH and I have been discussing whether it sounds more like a boy's or girl's name.

It definitely strikes me as a boy's name. I think it's nice--uncommon but not too "out there."

My dd had a friend with this name. I always liked it. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"> (Oh, and the friend was a boy).

My dh loves that name, and wants to name our baby that if it is a boy. I like the name, but am not in love with it like my dh.

love it. I knew an Elias when I was travelling and he was a great guy (pronounced E-LEE-US).<br>
I love the name Eli for a boy, so dh and I have been throwing this one around as well.

My son is officially called Elliot but we have several Arab friends living in a diverse city, and they all call him Elias. I didn't like it at first but it really grows on you. It is the Turkish/Arab version of Elijah (hebrew)/Elliot (english).<br><br>
It means "Jehovah is my God" which is one reason we named him Elliot.<br><br>
So, i like it! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

Didn't watch Alias, had a friend in high school named Elias - (E-LIE-US) - good kid.<br><br>

i like it for a boy but only when pronounced e-LIE-as and not EL-ee-as because i've known it to be used both ways.
