I am new to the whole CD'ing thing... My friend Kimberly (kimberlylibby) sent me a few things to try, including Mother-Ease one-size, Cloud 9 Softies fitteds, SAHM fitted, and Fuzzi Bunz, plus Proraps, DiaperRaps, and Bummis Wraps. Need to try a few more times to be sure, but I think I like the ME (for the one-size feature) and the FB. Would love to try some AIOs...

Anyway, here's what I am thinking about buying to start my own CD stash. Please tell me what you think...

-- Mother-Ease package #2, for $138.35 includes:
12 ME diapers
6 absorbent snap-in liners (would prefer the Stay Dry liners)
3 Air Flow Covers (1 white, 2 print)
Then also...
-- 6 Fuzzi Bunz (what kind of inserts should I get? I have a heavy wetter)
-- 6 AIO of some type (perhaps Loveybums? or various types) w/extra liners
-- 12 CPF
And perhaps...
-- 1 wool soaker
-- 1 Snappy

What do you think? My DD is 7 weeks old and weighs around 11.5 pounds... She wets pretty heavily... Would prefer to not have to wash diapers every day, but every 2 or 3 days instead... I need diapers that are EASY for my DH to use... lol Please note that we are doing this to save $$$! And of course, for the benefits of cloth... Don't want to break the bank, but want good quality diapers that will hold up for a long time (hoping the ME will last until she is potty-trained, hopefully by 2 years...).

Thoughts? Comments?

Thanks!

Kim

That is my "system"! Here is what I did. I bought the try it out package from ME. You get a diaper, snap in doubler, and a airflow cover for $16.95. Then I heard from everyone that I will need the doubler with themm all, so I found it cheaper to buy a dozen diapers, then you get one free! and then I bought 13 snap in doublers. So I now have 14 ME OS with snap ins (which we don't need yet). I also bought a second cover and might like a third. Then I bought a dozen Fuzzi Bunz with Joey Bunz. I find I only use those for night time, outings, babysitters, and DH uses them. So I don't really need a dozen. I think 6 is the most that have been in the pail at a time. I am trying to sell 6 now. So I suggest go with the half dozen you were thinking and 9 Joey Bunz so you can use 2 for night time. I think that is all that I "NEED" but I have a couple other diapers for the days I want something new, 6 PFs, and 3 other one-size diapers, and a wool soaker.

edited to add: my daughter is 3 months and 10 - 11 lbs.

Kim,

I have to be honest, ME OS were not my favorites as a new CDing mom. I think they are probably fine for older babes, but they just swallow little ones. The bulk really ended up getting to me and I sold them.

When my DS was that little, I loved using prefolds with a wrap and loved loved loved using FuzziBunz.

I think your best bet would be to get a small selection of different types of diapers and try them all out for a few days. You'll get a sense of what styles you like and what you don't.

Good luck!

Thanks for the input!

Now I am thinking Wonderoos sound pretty cool. They are a pocket diaper like FB that is one-size like ME... Hmmm... Anyone know if they are bulky?

I would also scope out the TP, ME covers are pretty easy to get on there. I really like the covers...better than bummis or proraps. I like the Rikki wrap better than the airflow. My guy has supachunk legs, so the airflow made red marks. But for some reason the front aplix didnt. go figure. It's the only front aplix/snap wrap that doesnt give my guy red marks. I have prob 6 tho, and NEVER use them anymore. I'm way into my wool and FB. I know a lot of mama's say to add a microterry insert on top of a hemp one (like a joeybunz) to help it absorb better/faster w/heavy wetters w/your fb. Good luck!! Have fun.

I have heard they are LESS bulky than FBs. But i have yet to try one. Honestly, I'm kind of afraid I will like them better than the FB, and then I would have to cry, b/c I have 10 fb now and 12 more on the way. I'm starting to think I'll be using wool more this summer anyways, b/c PUL get pretty warm on the hiney. I do have a trade in progress, so I'll let ya know if another mama can't say for sure on fb/wonderoo bulkiness compairson.

I don't see why it wouldnt. I have a bazillion. Don't know why....but I have this need to have 2x as many inserts than pockets
