Since the search engine is out of commission I thought I'd just go ahead and ask because I haven't come across any recent posts on the matter.

I am looking for a mosquito repellant that is safe for the whole family. My youngest is one year. I don't mind making a solution but it has to work good. After all of the rain it is almost impossible to find any time during the day that we don't get attacked.

So please, send me your best!

Thanks!

I have been using some avon repellant- I like it because it doesn't have deet. But it hasn't been working an after DS got some bites infected and had to go to the ped (yeah- stupid) I bought some low deet wipes. Probably not the answer you were looking for. I did see at the pharmacy that Burts Bees has a repellant- but they were sold out.....

We usually dress DD in long pants and long sleeves if we think we're going to be around mosquitos. Then if I need to put any repellant on her, I can apply it to her clothes rather than her skin.

I use Jason repellant... the active ingredients are soybean oil and geranium oil. I don't think it works quite as well as the Deet spray, but I do feel like it makes a big difference and I feel much more comfortable about using it.
Bite Blocker is the only thing that really works for ds who is horribly allergic to any biting bug. It is organic and deet free. I suggest reapplying but it's totally safe for little ones and pregnancy. It's easy to find too. I have seen it in several stores and catalogs as well. The bugs here are extreme too. So the stuff must be good. The primary ingredient is geranium oil. It comes as a spray, a lotion, and wipes too. We have all three. The wipes are great to keep in the car just in case their also good for faces so you can wipe around the eyes etc.

All Terrain Herbal Armor
Comes in a spray or lotion with or without sunblock
www.allterrainco.com

We use the lotion because I think it gets better coverage. As long as you put enough on, it works! Of course, if you miss a spot (like the ankles), they will find it.

We use the spray. Works GREAT.

I hate the Burts Bees spray. It's oily and comes out in a stream, so it's very messy and doesn't spray on clothes. And it didn't work well at all for us. The CB brand works so so so much better and I love it because you can spray it on clothing -- not just rub it on skin.

Wow, I have a lot to choose from! Thanks for all of your suggestions. Today I found out that the mosquitos are worse than I thought. We are even getting bit through our clothing! Within 10 seconds of going out they find us and start their attack. I can't take my kiddos out until I find something that works. I just can't bear to see them getting bitten.

We use Off! Botanicals lotion and love it! The way my kiddo fidgets around I am worried to use spray on him yet..and I'd hate for him to breathe the spray too.

I have a little round tin of Badger brand bug repellant that I carry around with me, but living in Oregon we've never had to use it yet.
I guess i need to hang around some campfires and lakes in the evening more often.

We use "Tick Guard" by Botanical Solutions, Inc... www.botanicalsolutionsinc.com. I found it at our local health food shop and have been really super happy with it.
