I've been dyeing with Kool-Aid and Jacquard Acid dyes and when I rinse until the water has no color in it with both cold and then warm water. This takes about half an hour. At this point, the beautiful, vibrant colors on the playsilk is gone.
I heat the water to 185F-200F as the Dharma site says. One person I spoke with at Dharma said not to let the JA go to boiling. Is there a step in the process that I'm missing? When I boiled a playsilk with tea, there wasn't much to rinse and the color stayed beautiful. The wool yarn that I rinsed for 45 minutes is still dripping yellow as it dries.

ARe you using vinegar with your Koolaid dye?
When I did it in the microwave last year it was very very hot - too hot to touch.
The red took a long time to run clear. I re-microwaved it and that seemed to help.

I did use vinegar. I kept the temp around 190F. Perhaps, I need to make it a little warmer so that the dye "sticks".

I was looking for the tutorial I was working with and I couldn't find it. IIRC I needed to microwave it until the colour in the liquid left in the bowl was almost clear which indicated that the kool-aid had been absorbed by the silk. It took a lot longer for the red to do this than for other colours.

Good luck!
