Looking for ideas to motivate DH.

I volunteer with and donate to a low cost spay/neuter clinic and I donate to a wonderful group that vaccinates dogs in area shelters and runs a foster program.

DH is technically donating to them also since it's "our" money, and he's happy to let me do it, but I love helping my causes and wish he could feel the same joy.

We donate money to our church and to Heifer International.

We donate food and Christmas gifts to our local, hometown food pantry/charity.

We donate to our local food bank. We also donate to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (our 3 yr old niece has diabetes). We donate to St Judes and we also donate to a couple cancer societies (DH's sister died of pancreatic cancer).

Is there anything he feels strongly about, or something that's affected him or someone close to him? That would probably be the best bet to get him more involved in the joy of giving.

Mostly local, but international organizations as well. Donate to whomever you feel the most inclined to. Other people can't really tell you who to donate to because each person has a different cause that they feel an affinity with. That includes both you and your dh... each of you will feel like donating to a different cause. It's quite personal, I think.
