Lets put it this way, my LO NEVER cries.
I am blessed. Ok, he cries occasionally, if he is hungry, tires, or needs to be changed.

Tonight he was inconsolable. After I fed him (EBF) he was letting out this war cry like nothing Ive ever heard.

He was sort of arching his back as if he had colic...

COuld he be developing colic at 3 mos?

What do you think this was? It was sort of scary.

Finally, I put him in his crib and he plopped his thumb (safety blanket) in his mouth and all was ok.

Its now 4 am and he was good after this feeding.

ALSO, could he be going through a growth spurt? He is eating more frequently, and seems to be 'ravenous' every time he eats...

I know how scary that can be, my DD was also the type that rarely cried intensely, so the few times she did I panicked.

Perhaps he had some painful gas? If he is eating ravenously maybe he gulped some air. I definitely wouldn't think colic though, as it sounds like a one-time thing.

I do think 3 months is probably about the right time for a growth spurt.

If he's doing better, I wouldn't worry. Sometimes you just don't know why they cry.

That's exactly how my LO was acting during her last growth spurt (a few weeks ago). It lasted 3-4 days. She acted like she was starving all the time and seemed unsatisfied afterwards, but calmed down after a few minutes. She did eat more frequently though. Now she's back to her normal self.
