And what can they do for unschoolers? I've seen the term mentioned in several threads, and I get that it's a private school thing that can help CYA. But what are they? If you enroll in an umbrella school, do you still have to keep records and do the assessments?

I use an "umbrella school" or "private school"! There are different requirements for different schools. The one I use requires me to send in attendance once a year. Thats it!

If I didn't use my private school I would have to report to my local school board with either an evaluation or portfolio review annually.

Hm, interesting. So you can bypass the school district entirely?
