Of course I know of calamine lotion - I had poison ivy at 5 and for many, many years afterwards and got covered in the stuff.

What I want to know is what is it made of? Is it plant-based? Is it a chemical composition? Does it have ingredients added with unpronuncable names? Would it be considered a natural remedy? What is calamine lotion exactly?

Is it's main function to relieve itching? Does it have a drying effect also?

TIA from the land of the curious ...

Calamine is mineral-based. A mix of zinc oxide and an iron oxide, I think? I have no idea how it's produced. Calamine lotion usually has calamine, bentonite (a type of clay), and stuff like water and glycerine.
