I want to get my SIL a sling....but not sure which is best. I have the New Native Baby and it is not as adjustable as I would like. I didn't like the tails on Maya Wraps, but SIL might not care. But then again who knows. What's been your experience?

I love Hatchling slings. They are Australian but she does send overseas. www.theuniversewithin.com/keltorrdesigns/ if you're interested.

Somewhat similar to a Maya wrap with a pocket in the tail (she's been making them this way for ages) and is very adjustable. There is a slight padding in the railings and it has a padded shoulder section.

There are lots of funky colours and you can have a different railing colour to the main colour which makes them very original.

i love the adjustable unpadded ring type (okay, a Maya) but I've never had that particular brand.

I just tuck that tail in wrapped around baby if I want it out of the way!

I am getting a robezo, so I'll see how that is next!

If I wasn't using the pocket on mine I would wrap it around the sling rings and tuck it out of the way.

i have so many slings, it is hard to say wich is my fav, but i really like the maya for gift giving since it can be snugged up very tight (as apposed to the padded rail ones that don't seem to get tight enough) the looser it is the harder the weight feels on your body. i also like that the tail has a pocket, the fabric has cool patterns, and most importantly it comes with a video.
i also have a rebozo that i really like but the learning curve it a bit daunting to give it out as a gift unless it is someone i see all the time
the packababy ( www.packababy.com ) is a great all around carrier. it can be used from birth to 45 pounds and can be used on the front, side and back (very secure and comfey for back carry)

I love, love, love my Maya wrap! The tail can be tucked out of the way when not in use, or used to cover up while nursing, or just to keep the sun out of baby's eyes. It also can be used as a carseat blanket, a shopping cart harness, a booster seat harness. It is great for hip carry because you can get the top rail really tight to support baby's back.

I have heard good things about the Kangaroo Korner adjustable fleece pouch.

Personally, I love my OTSBH. I had a maya pouch, and then a maya wrap, and also a Rosado sling before that...I found the OTSBH to be really adjustable and snug--the first truly hands-free sling that I had. I found that my Maya would slip a little and I kept having to tighten it.

Slings are such a personal thing, everyone has their own opinion!!

I am very small framed and found my best bet to be to start making my own slings. I have come up with a simple rectangle through two metal rings and a pocket at the shoulder to put a removable pad such as a cloth diaper. They are very simple to make. And you get great fabric selection.

Yeah, that's the good thing about the Hatchling, you can do it up passed the padded rails and it doesn't slip at all. I have the mesh for summer, the stretch mesh for swimming/showers with young babies and an original.

I have tried heaps of different slings and this is definately the best and has the best price. Over in America you could probably order two and pay for postage for the same price as a Maya. The only problem is no video but they do come with a print up of some of the positions.

I second the Packababy. Love, love that one. It is the most comfortable carrier I've tried and have had a number of them. I can carry my 34-pound four year old on my back with it or my 19-month-old on the hip or back and don't get the dreaded neck kink I always got with slings. I got mine second hand- there is about a month wait to get a new one, I think-- but definitely worth it IMO.

I have an Ergo carrier too, and like the Packababy better. Packababy is also less than half the price of an Ergo.

The only thing I have is a fleece pouch from Kangaroo Korner (they have a website, so it's easy to order from them). I love it.

I got it because it looked a lot easier to use than a sling. I can't compare (since it's all I have) but it is soooo easy to use. Just put it on and slip ds in. Couldn't be easier.

And another thing I love about it is that I can then slip it off me (with ds still in it) and put him down - as long as he's asleep, he stays cosy in the sling and will stay asleep - so it's an ideal way for me to get him to sleep before I need to do something I can't do with him (like cook dinner, bath the girls or nurse dd2).
