We made our own for years but I admit that I like the store bought stuff better. I love the smells. I use a ton of Seventh Generation but it is hard to find here and way expensive.

I just bought Method stuff from Target. It claims to be safe and Non-Toxic but has warning lables. Is this brand ok? I love the smells!!!!

We use vinegar and baking soda. But then, I do not like perfumed products or chemical smells AT ALL (they give me a headache). If the vinegar scent bothers you I find that a couple of drops of essential oil helps.

You can easily make your homemade cleaning supplies smell yummy by adding some EOs. That way, you will continue to know what your cleaners contain and you will save a lot of $.

But, the Method cleaners have tempted me too! I have also noticed the warning labels on Method cleaners. So, I finally got around to visiting the Q & A section on the www.methodhome.com web site.

Question
Is method non-toxic?

Answer
method cleaning products are non-toxic under normal usage conditions, do not give off harmful vapors and are safe for use around children, pets and women who are pregnant. All ingredients in our cleaning products are carefully screened before consideration as a formulation ingredient to make sure they contribute to an effective cleaning process without presenting any possibility of harm to the user.

When buying "green" cleaners - you really have to read the labels and do the research - if it is something you are concerned about. I've gone totally to natural homemade cleaners, but before that, I switched from regular to "green".

I bought some method foaming handsoap - b/c it was on Oprah's green show and b/c it smelled lovely. I recommended it to my sil who at 25 developed severe skin allergies and has a major list of ingredients she is allergic to. She took one look at the method ingredients and laughed. DMDM hydantoin is in the foaming soap, and it is actually formaldehyde. I don't know much about formaldehyde (I think it is used as a preservative) and someone told me it is technically "natural", but I don't want it in soap that my family uses. I dumped the almost empty bottle, put in a couple of squirts of Dr. B's and my fave EO, and now I have my own lovely smelling foaming hand soap and I know what the ingredients are!

In the end, it is all about what you are comfortable with, but I've found that a lot of the "green" store bought products are not disclosing all of their ingredients. Happy shopping!

same here. and I also cannot tolerate any amount of fragrance, especially if it's synthetic. Same for chemicals -- which many commercially made "green" products contain.

Many Method products have questionable ingredients. I do feel comfortable with most of the Seventh Generations and Ecover line and use them for dish soap, as well as toilet and floor cleaning.

I don't know much about Method other than scents are bio-based and don't contain parabens.

BUT, I dislike having any scented products around so I've only used there naked line.

We like the following products:
7th Generation free + clear laudrey detergent
Method Naked reusable dryer sheets

Ecover tablets + rinse aid for the dishwasher

Begley's Best household cleaner for kitchen counters
Method Naked handwashing soap
Method Mint window cleaner (doesn't come in Naked but isn't offensively scented)

7th Generation or Trader Joes 100% recylced toilet paper (both recieved good marks from Sierra Club)
7th Generation or Trader Joes 100% recylced tissue
7th Generation Unbleached Brown paper towels (when we use them; actually they don't work super well but that is part of the point; it has helped wean us off them)

Various California Baby products, although I prefer unscented I actually like some of their scents
Various Burt's Bees products

They are easy to find locally but I often mail order them on amazon prime or other because the price is the same, I can stock up in bulk, and shipping is free.

Also, 7th generation offers pretty good coupons on their website.
