A singer-songwriter friend of mine wrote a song for us. She spent a long time talking to me about our relationship, our history together, and our lives in general and she recorded a fantastic song. It's unique and . .. well . .. great.

don't know how helpful this is to you, OP, though, since not everyone has a singer-songwriter friend sitting around waiting to write a song! However, if you know any artisans or craftspeople, maybe someone could handcraft a special gift for you DP?

I gave my husband crabs for Valentine's day.

They were hermit crabs. He always wanted some when he was a kid, so I bought him some. Not very sexy but its a great ice breaker at dull get-togethers! LOL

I came looking for the ideas people were posting-I did like the song idea but who could do one and record one could be hard to find.

Long, long ago (almost 20 years ago) I repaired his grandfather's broken pocket-watch.

He'd showed it to me and told me how much it meant to him. So I noticed where he stored it. Researched repair places. Waited til he wasn't looking. Secretly removed it from its storage place (obviously not where he saw it daily!). Took it to the repair shop. Got it running. Gift-wrapped the running watch. And gave it to him for his birthday.

Honestly, I don't even know if the watch is functional at this point in time or if he even remembers it. But back THEN it was an important thing to him. I think the perfect gift is to see a need/desire that your partner hasn't even CONSIDERED meeting for themself and doing it for them.

A surprise birthday party.

His birthday is in December, and he had had a very bad year. His grandfather had passed and he had been really depressed over it. And then it seemed like everyone had "plans" on his birthday, so he was even more upset.... I felt bad about that. But end result: 20 or so of our friends met at the bar where my SIL was bartending, and when we walked into that scene my DH was TOTALLY blown away. He never even suspected anything.

Hired a photographer and had beautiful naked pictures of me taken and put into a small leather bound album he takes with him every time he travels.

Well, it wasn't sexy. But I gave my dh a blanket. It was the first time I'd ever seen him *thrilled* with a gift.

It wasn't so much the blanket as the thought I put into it. I made a big old Ethiopian flag, with fleece backing. He's Ethiopian, and he spends many a winter night curled up on the couch reading, for which a blanket is nice.

For my dh's 40th bday party, I took him away from a surprise weekend to Nantucket Island, where we met. His parents bought the plane tickets for a puddle jumper. The B&B where I used to work comp'd us the rooms (that was a huge surprise). His best friend who lives out there was charged w/b-day dinner & a cake (his sister is a baker). My sister agreed to watch the kids.

I arranged w/his boss to come pick him up on Fri morning. A friends husband came & got me from security & escorted me to my dh's desk. I just showed up and said, let's go. His boss said get outta here. I had hid the suitcase in the trunk of his car when he was in the shower that morning. He didn't even know where we were going until we were an hour into the drive.

But, honestly... the best gift.... a portable GPS. He loves that thing, LOL.

The best gift was a baseball glove that he had coveted for a long long time. He has a serious issue with spending a lot of money on himself, so a few things I've given him have been in the $200 range, way more than he would ever spend himself, but not that out of reach. An autographed baseball photo and a watch were big hits as well.

Not completely sexy, but I did end up delivering our first born on DH's birthday, he says it's his best birthday gift. *g*

Other gifts DH has liked, I made him a scrapbook he loved. I made him CDs of his favourite songs. I've given him a jar of Hershey Kisses with reasons why I love him written on the bottom (took a lot of cutting of tiny circles and small handwriting).

According to my husband the best gifts Ive given him was marrying him and having his two babies. Im due with our second on his birthday and hes over the top about it (he loves telling people about it because he thinks its funny)
Items wise Im not a big gift giver and neither is he. Last year I did get him a new TV for Christmas that he just loved

Well, this one isn't sentimental really, but my DH sure loved what I gave him for Father's Day: a striptease. And he loved it for more than the obvious, skanky reasons - but he also really felt closer to me, appreciative, etc., and that feeling lasted a while (not just that day). I think he felt like he got a glimpse of a different side of me, and he really liked it. Please note that I'm 20 pounds overweight, been nursing for 3 years, I'm clumsy and can't dance, etc. - but our husbands think we're gorgeous, especially if we're confident about it.

Yesterday I looked at this thread, today I actually feel I can post on it. For my DH's birthday (yesterday), I gave him a "coupon" for an entirely free weekend, where he can do whatever he wants and does not have to worry about cooking, cleaning, or taking care of the kids. He can go on a trip or stay home, sleep or do whatever he wants.
He said it was the best gift ever.

I think DH's favourite gift is a full body oil massage with a happy ending. LOL

He loves massages and back scratches, and a nice long oil massage is just the ticket for him. And he appreciates it even more because it's free....we don't like to spend money on gifts for each other.

I don't know that I've ever given my hubby anything wonderfully wonderful. He's very hard to buy for. I did get him a Springsteen book this year for his b-day and he seemed to enjoy it and didn't return it to the store so that was a plus.
