Ugh. This evening I have been having a very tender pain in my abdomen, on the right. About even with my belly button, but about 4-5 inches over to the right. It is very tender to touch. What would cause this? Could it just be from IBS and a not so good diet the past few weeks?

I dunno... : I get pain like this sometimes when I eat crappy food, but it usually seems a little higher up in my abdomen, more close to my rib cage, if that makes sense.

pain in the internal organs often radiates and shows up in a slightly different spot than the organ itself. Like appendix pain is often more to the center of the belly, around the belly button. Gall bladder pain can radiate down lower than the organ itself. You might consider that.
However, it could be your ileocecal valve (opening of small intestine to large intestine) sometimes that can be tender if you are having digestive challenges.

I'm not a doctor, but my RN mother told me (when I had pain on the right side) that it could be a number of things, but that if the pain comes on around a half hour after eating a high fat item (milk, dairy, red meat and bacon are big culprits), then subsides a bit later then it is typically indicative of gall bladder problems (which is my issue). The appendix can be found by placing your thumb on your belly button and your pinky on the point of your hip bone and it is approximately right in the middle. I've also had pain in similar reasons simply from gas, as well as radiating from ovarian cysts. Really it could be a bunch of things, so if it is persistent and/or your instincts tell you something is wrong, then I'd get in to a doctor to check it out.
