DS (4.5 months) has something very small, hard and white on his gums. BUT it's not on top of gums like a normal tooth would come out at - instead, it's on the front of his gums. It couldn't possibly be a tooth coming out the wrong direction, could it?! (forgive me if that sounds totally stupid, but DH and I are truly concerned about this!)<br><br>
Would you take a baby this young to a ped or a dentist to discuss this?

Small, hard, and white... sounds like a tooth to me! I suppose it could come out at a weird angle. Ha, I even had a tooth in the ROOF of my mounth that I didn't know about until x-rays were done (just hiding up there, causing no harm, but they took it out). Maybe it's just a funny baby tooth coming in in a weird spot.<br><br>
The only other white thing that would appear on the gums that I can think of would be thrush. I don't have much experience there, just as a paranoid new mom I memorized symptoms of all the things we want to avoid lol<br><br>
Or if it wipes away from the gums could just be b milk residue?

Teeth don't always come out right out of the ridge of the gums like you would think. Don't worry about it being in a weird place until later when they are all in -- it might take care of itself!<br><br>
BTW, my stepsister had a tooth in the middle of her hard palate too. It actually came out there. It got fixed when she had braces.

these are called epstein's pearls- my DS got a couple around 3-4 months. They go away within a few weeks, usually.

dd has had one since she was born, and she is now 10mo. her doctor had some fancy name for it, but he said not to worry, they are very common. not a tooth, but some kind of cyst that is harmless and will go away on its own. just check with your dr if you are unsure.<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

Yeah, dd had one of these, too. It just went away by itself. Nothing to worry about!
