This was the question raised in a vaccine debate on another board I post at. The BBC ran an article about a year ago about the government offering financial incentive to GP's that raised MMR rates. Why is this? In the UK vaccines are free, so what is the financial trail here? In the US I can easily present a case re: conflicts of interest, but I'm having a tougher time with Britian.

Please help me.

The MMR rates have gone way down in the UK because of the autism link. Doctors might not buy the vaccines individually, but the UK goverment still buys them from the pharmaceutical companies. It is still about the bottom line whomever pays. I am sure the pharmas are doing deals with the goverment who in turn pay the GPs, it is just less direct.

Someone is paying for the vaccines, the drug companies don't care who pays, cash is cash, no matter where it comes from.
