What is your best invention or idea?

Thought I would start a thread for us to share the little helpful things we've come up with to cope with different situations, or just silly simple things that were like, "oh wow that really worked"

Many times when dd is a little impatient and I have to do something, like go potty, take a shower or feed the dogs, we have a "mommy minute". I count backwards S-L-O-W-L-Y from 60 to stretch out a "regular minute" into a "mommy minute". It keeps her occupied and we always do something exciting when I get to zero.

I loaded an empty reuseable yogurt container with cheerios the other day to keep in the car for snacking, but she likes to play with the container and the noise the cheerios make...voila, baby rattle!
she hasn't figured out how to open it....yet!

What have other mamas devised, invented, created, stumbled upon, etc?

We use a Chinese baby carrier I got in Chinatown as a portable high chair, kind of like this tie chair This way she can sit in those wooden restaurant high chairs and be secure, or I can even strap her on to a regular chair if there are no high chairs.

Just a rectangle of cloth with 4 straps, it would be super easy to make.
I desperately need a device that keeps a door exactly 3 inches ajar. It needs to let my cat in and out (and not shut) and not let my babe in or out...

I can't be the only one who needs this. Have you seen one?

can you use a hook and eye from the hardware store? if you put it in the right place on the door jamb, it could hold the door open instead of holding it closed.

We actually just use a pair of shoes (one in the door and one on the rear of the door holding it closed) but our dd is not mobile yet.

I had an idea but didn't mention it to anyone, but the other day while looking for mei tai patterns, I noticed someone had come up with it already.
Panels to go on your existing mei tai, to jazz it up or change it entirely.

I've come up with SO many ideas, but have no follow-through, and eventually someone always comes up with it, too.

LOL we use a shoe too. But its mostly to let the cats in since we dont need to keep the baby out. For the litter box area (to keep kids and dog out) we just cut a cat door into the door to the closet where the litter box is. Its more of a permanent solution, but it definitely works.

WE also used gates when DS was mobile and the cats were able to go under the gates.
There may already be one out there but i think a vibrating pacifier would be good for a teething baby. My 19wk old can hold teething rings but can't aim it up with his mouth yet but he loves to chew on his binky. If there is one out there does anyone know where i could buy one

My mom suggested this one and it works. We use one of those big black paper clip things to hold a dish towel on DS instead of bibs. I hate bibs. After we're done I wet the towel to wash him and whatever else needs wiping and then throw it in the laundry. I went to go buy one of those bib clips, but they were sold out. Now I think I'll keep the $12 and keep using the clip.

How cute is that baby in the tie chair pic???

Thanks for this thread...I'm going to borrow a lot of ideas!!!

My parents used a hook / eye latch on the basement door to hold it open enough for the cat to get down for her food, but the dog couldn't get in.

Not a pacifier, but dh (who loves all gadgets!) has bought G two items like this. One is a teething ring that vibrates when you bite it (probably from walmart) and the other is what we call 'fussy baby toy' It's an amazing devise we keep in the car. There are three buttons on the top that make it work- it plays songs, the small eyes blink, and most importantly, it vibrates- the handles are soft and chewy! When dh showed it to me I am sure I rolled my eyes but really, it's a great item.
