I am just wondering what types are available to you from the store that you like to use. Or, do you make your own?

I used to like a jarred sauce from a company called five brothers. It was a very simple tomato basil sauce.Very good..but I have not boughten any for a loooooonnnnggg time. We have been using what ever is .88 cents at wal mart.

I would like to splurge a little and try something different, can you recommend any specific brands/recipes???Is there one type that you swear by or cannot live with out having in your pantry?

I really like Muir Glen organic. I just watched Good Eats tonight, though, and Alton Brown made a great-looking pasta sauce from canned tomatoes. Here's his recipe:

link

I get it at the local health food store, but other groceries may carry it, just not the one I use. It's the best ever and organic!

I really love Mario Batali's simple tomato sauce
Called Sugo Pomodoro, just checked the jar. It's really has a vibrant taste of tomatoes, good just plain on pasta. it's not cheap but I find it worth it.

I second the vote for organic Muir Glen (they make a great salsa and ketchup too). The downside is they're soooo expensive, but our natural food store has them on sale 2 for 1 occasionally, and that's when I stock up!

I usually make my own, but also ocassionally buy a couple jars to have on hand for quick cooking.
I really love Newmans Own mushroom marinara, but no longer buy it because it is not organic and just don't buy non-organic tomato products any more.
Another favoorite is Amy's brand marinara.
