I have enough newborn wool already but I want PUL for using contours and CPFs (stuff I can wash easily when poo gets on it). I have 5 nb Proraps and 2 nb Bumpy night covers.

I would like to get a couple nb Bummis as well. But what else is really great? Something you think is the best PUL cover out there for the newborn stage?

With Maxi is used Dappi (the worst ever! : ) and Proraps and Bumpy night but thats it. I wasnt as knowledgeable about cloth way back then lol!

So any tips?

I only used ProRaps on Katherine when she was first born.. but it was my first venture into using cloth and I had no clue what I was doing... that said, I loved them and will certainly use them again. I think aplix-closing covers are a wonderful thing for newborns (this coming from a person who loathes aplix!) because of the customizable fit. Plus, they're industrial strength covers and can easily handle being washed every use (poo leakage and whatnot!)... I know you love wool but with newborns it can be a scary prospect to use it with all the explosions and such. Do you like fleece? If so, that would be a good alternative for a while. It can be easily washed, yet it more breathable than PUL (though really, nbs get changed so often it's not so much of an issue!).

Just a few thoughts! You're in my prayers daily with sticky vibes

Thanks! I do love wool but really I am reserving it for use only with good fitting fitted dipes so I wont worry so much about leaks. But I do want to have a good PUL stash for the contours and CPFs (which we have a LOT of) and just in case the wool doesnt work out.

I am not a huge fleece fan - I just dont like how hugely bulky it is and even though its more breathable than PUL I dont feel all that secure with it not leaking. The fleece covers I had for Maxi didnt work that great - we still had leaks (until he was older).

I agree about Aplix/Velcro for nbs even though I HATE it too :LOL

I like Bumkins. That's what I started with 4.5 years ago, and after trying just about everything out there, they're still at the top of my list.

You already named my top 3 picks for NBs - Bummis, Bumpy, and Proraps.

How old was he? We used Bumpy night covers (newborn) on Maxi for the first couple of months with no problems. But I wonder if they scratch a baby already sitting up. That was the problem we had with Bumkins - the Velcro strip is SO stiff and the edge is sharp and really cut into his tummy while learing to/sitting up.

my fav were prorap and bumpy I liked bummis newborn ok with a preemie prefold. But once dd got into smalls I didn't like the elastic as much.

I don't think you can go wrong with proraps or bumpy (except no fold back tabs). I loved the gussets for that newborn poo!
