what is your system for dealing with poopy dipes?

818 Views 23 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  MiaPia
I have been happily using my diaper service cloth diapers now for 10 months-- no questions asked. But it is occurring to me as I read more on this board that I really could just do it myself. You all are inspiring me

So-educate me. What is your system for dealing with poopy diapers (the most frightening part of doing the cloth diaper thing on my own). I would like to continue with the CPF.

My dh is 100% NOT supportive as he has horrible memories of cloth diapering of his siblings (smell, swishing poopy diapers).

Can you all help me figure out a system that will not send my dh into ptsd? And that is something that I can manage?

TIA!!!!

I take off her diaper and fold it up so the bm stays in there. Then I wipe her (w/ either a cloth wipe or disposable one). When I have her all changed I take the pf to the toilet and shake the bm in there. Then I flush and put the cd in the pail until wash day.

If the bm is sticky and won't come off, I get as much as I can off then put it in the washing machine alone (or w/ the cover if bm got on it) for a rinse. Then I dump any other dirty pf's and do another rinse, then wash.
I clean up the kids and then take all the poopy items to the bathroom where I shake everything off into the toilet, using the wipe again if I need to to encourage the stickier messes, then I rinse and wring out everything in the sink and then it goes in the dry pail with the pee dipes. Then I clean the sink. Not very efficient. I really need a mini shower for the toilet. working on that!
so is it ok if there is a bit of stuck on poo to put it into the washer? It won't hurt or clog the washer (sorry, I am washing machine ignorant, too)

This is exactly what I do. After they're shaken out in the toilet I lay them on top the dryer (so by the end of the day there's usually a good little collection) and then thrown them in the washer! Works for us!

I dont stress if I cant get it all off easily, we do a diaper wash every day.
My step-mother said she used disposable diaper liners when she cloth diapered her daughter (21 years ago). She said she just flushed the bm in the liner, and soaked the wet diapers in a bucket of bleach solution till she had a full load to wash. I haven't used my cloth diapers yet cause I'm staying at my dad's right now, and it's too much trouble. Can't speak from my own experience, sorry... That might be something your husband is okay with though...

Sometimes we have some diapers that have little clumps here and there stuck on them. They come off in the washer and we haven't had any clogging problems yet! I would say unless it's a huge amount then you won't have any problems.
We do the same, basically - take the dipe off, fold it up, clean up baby (cloth wipes). Then we take the dirty dipe to the bathroom and 99% of the time the poop just falls off into the toilet - any little residue is just left on and the dipe goes in our dry pail. If it is a messy poop, then I use the mini-shower to spray it off, and then into the dry pail it goes, too!

With a diaper service, do you dump your poops, or do they just go in the pail with the diaper? Sorry for my ignorance

OK...So I don't need to dunk the diaper into the toilet to swish it around? Because I was wondering how I would manage a now drippy diaper...
I never swish - ewwww.... !!! I did a few times before we got the mini-shower I guess, but now I just use that.

I would dunk it in the toilet a few times to get the worst of it off.

I put diaper poop and all into the pail. I am not totally sure if that is what you are ~supposed~ to do...but I have been doing that ;-)

I holler for DH and tell him that it's his turn.

I usually just shake into the toilet. If it's really messy or sticky, I have been known to put my whole hand in there and swish. Once you do it a few times and get past the :puke factor, it's really not that bad.

I change her, toss the dipe, wipes, and whatever else in the tub or in a paile on teh floor if I'm not in the bathroom. When I am done with her, I spray (mini shower) the wipes off in the tub. I put the dipe over the toilet seat and spray the VERY pastey poop in the toilet, till the dipe is just stained yellow like.

I spary any off the cover.

I put it all in the bummis bag/dipe pail.

I wash every few days.
Dd's potty trained but here's how we dealt with them in the last year of diapering:

1) removed diaper, folded it over, wiped her.
2) took diaper to toilet and sprayed with toilet sprayer to get it all off
3) if it looked like it would stain I sprayed Zout on it before throwing it in the pail
4) made sure I did a cold soak on wash day

That's it!

Today is my FIRST day of CDing. 14mo DD had a mini poop in diaper #2. I thought, oh, this isn't so bad - it does just roll off the dipe.

Well, within 10 minutes - there was a monster, gross, soft, raisin-filled, mushy poop - that filled the ENTIRE diaper - (but, did not leak out into the cover - a kissaluv).

I took it off her, folded it up, wiped her - put on my FIRST UBCPF w/ snappi (let's see how long that holds!!) - covered it - and then took the kissaluv to the commode. I had to dunk, swish, flush, dunk, swish, flush and wring. EEEWWWWWW!

Needless to say, i just ordered a mini- shower on line. I don't plan to tell DH about this experience until the mini-shower arrives. I don't want him to get anxious anticipating such a mess! We'll cross that bridge when it comes.

I'm a flicker/dunker as needed.

DD's poops are solid so I flick off what will come off but if there remains any chunks then I dunk.

My SIL who has twim 3 month old babies uses a mini shower on all poopy diapers
Wow! Thanks to all (I need a confidence boost).

Jean-lol.....This is about how imagined it would be
Where did you find the little shower?

DDs BF poops just go straight in the pail - no rinsing or anything.
With DS's gross toddler poops I just dump off whatever will fall into the toilet, and the rest just gets tossed into the pail - I don't like dunking or swishing so I usually don't do it, unless it's too pasty to roll right off
.
Anyway, I've never had a problem with bits of poo clogging up the washing machine.
BUT - my new mini-shower just came in the mail today!! I can't wait for DH to poop so I can try it out! LOL
