Maybe we can give each other some great book ideas here.

I love books, and thankfully my son does as well. So many wonderful children's books exist, and I find it interesting to observe which books really capture my son's attention. I sometimes pick out picture books at the library that I am just positive will fascinate him, but when I show them to him, I notice he couldn't care any less. Other times he is drawn to books that I don't find visually pleasing at all. That always cracks me up. I am sure some of you have had similar experiences. Only they know why certain books appeal to them and not others.

I thought it might be a good idea to share the title of that one special book our children absolutely adore.

My son's #1 book of all time is...drum-roll please...

Busy Little Mouse by Eugenie Fernandes and Kim Fernandes. It is a journey through Little Mouses busy day. He meets a dog, pig, sheep, cow, cat, duck and a horse and then goes home where his loving parents tuck him into bed. It rhymes, and the three-dimensional artwork is beautifully amazing.

What is your child's favorite book?

Katie's favorite is called *Mommy's Best Kisses*. On each page, there's a different animal mama and babe pair, and the mama is kissing a different body part on the babe. It starts with *I kiss your sweet hands as you reach for my face...*, and Katie always reaches her hands out to be kissed on that page, and follows along in that way throughout the book, offering up the appropriate parts for kisses.

Another recent favorite is called *Rock-a-Baby Band*. It came with a CD, but we prefer to make up our own song for it. However, we got a little tired of it, so Dh and I hid it a few weeks ago, and we can't find it now. :LOL

I just got dd "My Many Colored Days" which is a Dr. Seuss boardbook...someone else did the illustrations, though...they are gorgeous!
The book is about how you feel on different days...and relates it to different animals. Like when you feel pink, you are a happy flamingo...when you feel green, you are a cool and quiet fish...
It's a good one.

She also loves any Sandra Boynton, esp. Doggies and Barnyard Dance.
Oh! Also Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Eric Carle.

We have gone through several favorites. The first one that he really expressed a preference for was Hand Hand Fingers Thumb. This was a book I remember loving as a kid, so I found it amusing that he would consistently pick it out from amongst all his books. I actually had to buy a second one because the first one (a board book) disintegrated (well, the binding did) we read it so much.

Then we went through a phase of some Dr. Seuss - specifically "There's a Wocket in my Pocket" and "Mr. Brown Can Moo."

Then it was Goodnight Moon.

Right now he loves "Go Dogs Go." I actually don't like this book very much - I find it awkward - but he loves it so I read it many times a day. He also loves this book called "Hondo and Fabian" that my mom got him. It's a very simple book about a cat and a dog. Go figure.

Oh, and we have a set of board books that tell the words in english and spanish - one is opposites, one is colors, one is shapes, etc. He loves the colors one, but hasn't shown the slightest interest in the any of the others, which I find interesting.

I loved books as a kid, and still do, so reading with ds and seeing him pick out certain books over others is one of my great joys.

Please keep these coming. We are definitely going to be checking these out of the library. My son also loves all things dog related. Hahaha!

I heard of a book in Chinaberry called Rotten Teeth that is supposed to be hilarious. I am not sure what ages it is appropriate for, but I want to read it myself, so I am going to look that one up too.

Several favorites:

Trashy Town and I Stink - both books about garbage men and garbage trucks.

Peter Rabbit.

More, More, More Said the Baby (by Vera Williams)

Yes, Eric Carle books - catapillar and Brown Bear.

also - lots of Suess lately, inlcuding My Many Colored days and the ABC book.

Also, anything by Richard Scarry.

We read A LOT during the day and at night. I mean, a LOT. By late morning naptime, the stack of books "read" is usually about 10 or 12. (We don't have cable TV and are actively discouraging any video watching though on occasion we give into Peter Rabbit or Suess' ABC.)

Nice thread!

My son has 2 favorite books at the moment.

*A book about planes.
With real photos of all the different types of planes. Its not written for toddlers at all. Its a book for kids ages 7-10, I think. But he LOVES it. Can`t get enough of the planes.

*A book called "Find it and say it." It`s not a storybook, but a book where he looks for and finds different object on each page. He can sit forever and try to find stuff.

He isn`t very interested in me reading him books. He likes to "read" himself instead.

My son loves books. We have to limit his bedtime books to 3-4 though, because otherwise he will stall and lay there all night listening! I try to encourage book reading throughout the day, so I don't feel guilty for limiting him at night. Current faves are:

"The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear" and "Piggies" by Don and Audrey Wood. He also *loved* The Napping House by them as well, but we lost it.

"Where the Wild Things Are" or "Max" as DS calls it.

"Goodnight Moon" a perpetual favorite.

And this awful Dora book that I bought that has no socially redeeming qualities, but I must read it at every nap and every bedtime!

Every now and then we sneak in a classic pooh book or something silly like "Minerva Louise" or "The Dumb Bunnies"

My son's favorites seem to rotate on a weekly basis. These two, however, come up again and again and are always requested several times a day when they're "in".

Hide and Snake by Keith Baker (he loves to search for the snake on each page, and the illustrations are just wonderful; there's so much to see!)

Eating the Alphabet by Lois Ehlert (wonderful paper collages of different fruits and vegetables from A to Z; now if only he would EAT as many as he's learning to name!

Oooh I have a couple favorites of Madyson's to share that haven't been mentioned.

Child of Faerie, Child of Earth by Jane Yolen. M absolutely loves this book. It's the story of a faery child and an earth child who meet on All Hallow's Eve and each child shares his world with the other. Each child is asked to stay in the other's world but they refuse because of the wonderful things from their world that they would miss. They end up being friends through to old age. Incredible pictures, lovely story. It's done in rhyming and sounds so poetic. M is just enthralled each time I read it. So questions, just silent reverence! What a welcome change!

I Love my Mommy Because by Laurel Porter Gaylord(or soemthing to that effect) This is a cute little book that lists the reasons why each animal loves it's mummy. I find it to be quite supportive of AP actually though it does only have one picture of a mummy and young child. Reasons include:
-because she feeds me when I'm hungry(young lamb nursing, to which Madyson replied, "mummy, she's giving him milk from her bum bum! that's so weird!")
-because she swims with me
-because she is big and strong
-because she listens when I talk
-because she keeps me safe and warm(polar bear mummy and baby snuggling while they sleep)
I can't remember the wording but there is a pic of a koala bear wearing her baby on her back and M goes, "mummy just like my sling!"
VERY cute book. Short, lots of animals to look at, and great messages!

Into my Mother's Arms. I can't remember the author, sorry. BUT it's about a young girl who wakes up and snuggles iwth her mummy until the mummy wakes up, then they spend their day getting dressed(mummy wears the yellow dress because the girl loves it), going grocery shopping(mummy buys the girl's favorite cookies just in case they run out), going to the park(girl is scared on the slide but she slides into her mummy's arms and doesn't feel frightened anymore), and reading a book together and taking a bath(the mummy is sitting there reading a book. I'm not sure if it's to the girl or just by herself. I prefer to say that she is reading to the little girl during the bath!). At the last page, the mummy lays down with the little girl until she falls asleep becasue the little girl likes that! GREAT book.

I've seen a lot of dd's favs listed here already. She loves all her books, but has a few that she seems to really like and brings to us to read more than others.

Her very fav is Sandra Boynton's, "A Cow Says Moo." Whenever I get to the part of the pigs singing "La La La," she yells YaYaYa (her way of saying La) and when the "other dogs go bow wow wow" she says "bowwow."

She also loves "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?" and "Goodnight Moon."

Well, we go through different favorites every few days around here. Dd is so into books that I have to occasionally distract her with something physical. At the current top of the rotation are:

Bill and Pete by Tomie DePaola. It's about a crocodile and his toothbrush.

Blueberry Shoe I can't remember the author, but the pictures are by Evon Zerbetz

I, Crocodile by Fred Marcellino. Yes, the crocodile eats Parisians at the end, but she loves to walk around saying, "Idol worship, I just love it!"

The Best Word Book Ever by Richard Scarry. How else can a toddler learn to identify a disc harrow?

Marianna and the Merchild I can't remember the author or illustrator for this one. But the pictures are gorgeous and dd loves the picture of the merchild nursing.

My ds , who has more books than toys!!, most favorite book is - Mr. Brown Can Moo - Dr. Seuss. He could at 16 months or so, turn the pages and give the correct sound to teh correct page. This book has been read to death!! He also loves - Mama, Mama Papa, Papa by Jean Marzollo. Its a flip book where one side is the Mama side and then you flip it, and its the Papa side. ITs with animals and one of my AP friends was reading it at my house and felt it was the best AP book, My favorite page says, ( with a pic of a leopard and baby) -

Mama, mama
Soft as Silk
Give me warmth
And give me milk

The book talks about carrying the babies, and sleeping with them too!!

Ds's fave book at my mom's house is Goodnight Moon! He loves saying Good Night to all of the things in the house and now will say" Ni Ni Moon" at bedtime!

As a bookaholic I will be reading this thread with deep intrest!!!

Great Thread! I am always on the lookout for new books!

Lucysmama, this was one of the first books I bought when I was pregnant because I love the art so much! DD still loves that one.

The newest faves are:

Panda Bear Panda Bear what do you see? She also loves brown bear brown bear, and polar polar bear what do you hear?

Ten Wishing Stars - the stars glow in the dark and she gets a kick out of that.

Sometimes I'm Bombaloo - a story about a girl who loses her temper - cool art.

Love Song For a Baby - this is a really cute story about how much the baby is loved - I get all teary everytime I read it. LOL

And - The Old Lady Who Swallowed the Fly. It's huge and has interactive circles. I skip the "perhaps she'll die" part.

and last but not least, one DH picked up called "Tails" that is VERY cute. She LOVES it. Also interactive but the board is thick so she, alas, cannot rip it.:LOL
