Newborns don't feel pain in their groin area until they are over a week old.

I am shocked that people think that way. :

Yeah. Go to http://www.circumcisionquotes.com/ and look in the blue menu bar under The Issues: Pain.

Well, it's logical on the surface. Thing is, anyone can test this theory for themselves. Tell this woman to yank and twist on her labia a bit and watch what she's doing. I'll bet she can do all kinds of freaky-looking things without it hurting. Then ask her if she thinks it would hurt if she just sliced them off. Hopefully it'll be a lightbulb moment. (Be sure to caution her not to actually try it in case the lightbulb is in fact burnt out. : )

In regards to the original comment:

Let me step on your son's groin. It's ok, he won't feel pain down there.

Anyone have a gun? According to this "logic", a baby boy could take a bullet in the penis and live.

The levels of ignorance are amazing.

People will make up all sorts of crap to relieve themselves of guilt they would otherwise feel for knowingly putting their children in pain for no good reason!

What a stupid comment.

I pretty much stopped lunch a couple of weeks ago. People were talking about their kids and someone said "My husband said that our son would never forgive us for not circumcising him." The other moms started saying how terrible it was for the baby and them. I said, "We did not circumcise our son because I just could not change him. He was born that way. How could I do anything else but leave him as he was meant to be."

......long, mildly uncomfortable pause... then everyone went back to eating.

Only in the groin area huh? So maybe they should do the groin-prick instead of the heel-prick for the PKU test? whatever.:

It's not so far off from 'modern' circumcision are painfree. Unfortunatly, there are a few doctor sites and videos out that that seem to show circumcision that have little effect on the baby.

If it is what you want to hear, it sounds good, even if it makes no logical sense.

Three words: open diaper pins.

If babies can't feel pain in that area, then how do they feel a pinprick from an open diaper pin?

Good for you! You probably got at least a few people thinking. It's amazing to me that people don't even THINK to question circumcision.
