We do almost everything with whole foods, but have resisted buying whole-grain pastas because the ones we've tried (quinoa and 1 other I forget) have been too chewy. I have liked rice pasta that I found at Big Lots once. I've usually been getting the vegetable spirals they sell in bulk at the Natural Foods Store. I think they're still wheat, though. (no problems with wheat, I think we just tend to overdo it, and would like to find some other grains that make good pastas).
I'm about to do our buying club order and want to buy some pasta through there.

What kinds do y'all buy? If you know the brand, tell that, too, or if it's in bulk. TIA!

I usually buy the cheapest pasta I can find- usually that means white flour-based pastas. I haven't been too satisfied with the texture of any whole grain pastas I've tried, and they're about 4X the price!!

What I try to do is serve pasta less often and use other whole grains more often- brown rice is inexpensive, whole wheat and whole cornmeal are good in baking, etc.

I like whole wheat pasta in spirals, but not in the form of spaghetti noodles usually. Don't know why it's different to me, but there you go. :LOL

I tried some Barilla whole grain pasta last month while traveling (probably wouldn't buy it normally because it's more expensive than bulk) and thought it was pretty good. It was a blend of several whole grains, not just wheat, and had a very high protein count for pasta. It might have been called "Plus" or something like that?

Hi!! We really like the whole wheat pastas, so that's what we buy, now--we never used to. It used to be just the regular, but the last 6 months or so we've been eating better adn we've been buying ww. We haven't had any problem with our kids eating it or anything!

I only buy barilla whole grain pasta because, as you said, some of them are chewy or too sticky or just taste weird.Sadly enough they don't have that much variety, so sometimes we have "normal" pasta.

Hmm.. I don't like the "plus" types, they have a wierd texture, rubbery or something. I really like the whole wheat pasta, to tell you the truth. We buy Hodgkin Mills or whatever it's called...

I usually dislike anything but plain old pasta b/c I find it too chewy, but I tried the Barilla "plus" stuff and also found it quite tasty. It has beans and stuff to give it complete protein, even. It IS pricey for pasta, though! About $2/1 lb box!

DS has a wheat sensitivity so I have been buying whole grain kamut. It cooks up just like wheat pasta and no one can honestly tell the difference.
