My 26 mo dd is suddenly very interested in movies. We only have one appropriate for her age (Finding Nemo). She has never been very interested in tv but suddenly wants to watch nemo daily. Since she does not take a nap any more, this is a good afternoon rest/break for us all. However, after a week, I am tired of watching nemo. I went to the video store and rented a few Pooh movies but those did not interest her. I got a Kipper movie from a friend but same thing. Anyone have movie recs for a two plus year old that family would enjoy also? I am enjoying this daily rest period (she gave up naps 6 mos ago and I miss them!) but would like to watch a different movie. I'd like to buy two maybe but rent them first to make sure she likes them. There are so many I'm not sure where to start. Bambi? Shrek? Mary Poppins? Help!

My son loves Bambi, Shrek, and Shek2. He didn't like Nemo, though.

I think it's tough to say....now my 26 month old ds won't really watch any movies...I honestly don't think he has the attention span to sit that long. :LOL
He is a huge Kipper fan though, and will sit and watch 50 mins of that, but that is really about it. We tried the disney's, Shreks, Nemo, nope.
Is it maybe that your dd likes the fish in particular?
My ds is also obsessed with cats, so he will watch anything with "meow, meow's."
We went through a much too long period where all he wanted to watch was the Wiggles, so just think...it could be worse.

My son also loves the Wiggles... and Teletubbies... and most annoying of all (to me), BoohBah. :p

Sometimes Disney holds a Wiggles marathon... so that's a good time to break out the VCR and record a nice 6-hour tape of Wiggles. Cheap too

Yah, it could be the fish. I should try to find a documentary on fish. We have been there with the wiggles. Last fall, she was wiggles crazy and asked for it all day long. I had a limit of one dvd a day and we had to dance to it so there was no just lounging around watching aimlessly. Even now, she plays and snacks while she watches. I guess they go through phases.

My 2 YO rarely sits and watches an entire full length movie. She does like shorter stuff though. Currently she's on a Dora the Explorer phase. At least she's picking up some Spanish and will now use both English and Spanish to count and ask for things. Jay Jay the Jet Plane is another hit. Madeline. Some of the Veggie Tales, if you are OK with religious content. Some of the Baby Einstein ones.

We've had mixed results with Disney. She almost never watches more than 1/2 before she gets bored. Bambi is really scary for her and my older DS (fire, guns, mommy dies). Shrek is rated PG, so we haven't tried that. She did like Cinderella. Mary Poppins sometimes. Fantasia, but turn it off before the final sequence, which is scary.

My DS loves The Wiggles, Shrek, Kipper, Caillou, and Jay Jay the Jet Plane. The only "full-length" movie he will watch, though, is the Wiggles movie "Wiggles Magical Adventure" (I think it's about 70 mins?). And it's one of the few kids' movies I can tolerate (I admit, I am a huge Wiggles fan myself hehehe).

Oh! I also have a Dr. Seuss movie that has Daisy Head Maisie, The Butter Battle Book, and Horton Hatches The Egg on it that he loves I LOVE Horton. I always felt sorry for him sitting on that egg for so long!

My dd loves Dora, Stellaluna (very cute movie & there is a book to go w/it), Big Bird Gets Lost, 3 Bears & the New Baby (both Sesame Stree movies), Nemo, Monsters Inc.

My dd also doesn't nap & hasn't in a long time. We usually have a 4pm PBS break so I know where you're coming from, LOL

My ds (24 mos) loves the Maisy character. We have several Maisy books and I just bought him a Maisy DVD that has several episodes on it. He will just sit and watch in amazement. Other than this, he isn't really into anything else. Hope this helps. Oh, the books are written by Lucy Cousins.

When DD#1 was 26 months I don't think she watched movies at all ~ they're so long, and even the Disney/cartoon types are filled with scenes that might be a bit scary to a child at that age & with such a limited level of understanding.

I think at that age she watched some Bear in the Big Blue House, and maybe the odd Teletubbies (shudder!)

My ds loves a sesame street movie about big bird- "follow that bird" , caillou, teletubbies sometimes.....
but mainly follow that bird, didnt show any interest in nemo, and he doesnt get too interested in elmo anymore....
he also really likes the old tv program northern exposure !
he doesnt ever really just sit and watch, mostly plays and toddles around doing "experiments" while they are on!

Ds went thru the same Nemo routine. I think it's the talking, brightly colored characters. Maybe try a Care Bear movie. I've never seen any, but my friend's daughter really likes them and they seem like nice bears.
Ds age 3.7 is now into anything w/swords and magic, Tarzan and Power Rangers. Today at the park a little girl got slightly hurt coming down the slide. Ds put his hand out to help her up. I complimented his action. He told me " I'm Tarzan today, I save people." Guess the man in the loin cloth w/a sword is a good thing.

Oh yeah! Boobah's just sick, isn't it? Sprogly loves Boobah and Teletubbies (I find them both equally hard to take), Barney, Clifford, Thomas the Tank Engine.

He loves Nemo, too, and asks for it all the time. We don't have many other movies, though, just Little Mermaid and Bambi, neither of which have really grabbed him. I need something else, just for variety. Not for Sprogly's sake, for mine! I've just about memorized the dialog in Nemo.

He loves fish in general, too. I've put on National Geographic-type nature shows with fish in them, and he loves them.

A couple of interesting things: Sprogly seems to be actually following some of the plot on these shows, rather than just watching the visual spectacle. This is pretty recent. Also, some parts in Nemo are kind of scary, and Sprogly now reacts to them. He didn't so much when we first watched it when he was younger.

Also, there's a short film before Nemo on the tape (yes, it's VHS ) of a snowman in a snowglobe. He tries to get out, and can't...anyway, Sprogly hates it! We have to fast forward past it. I'm not sure what it is about it that bothers him, but he's very insistant.

my dd is 32 months...and loves "wallace and gromit"...it is this creative and witty claymation series from England. She loves the stories about a precocious dog and his naive owner...cute! even if the humour is a quite over her head...but she thinks she gets it. It's nice to watch something different from your regular animation also...mixes up the media.

Ds loves Maisy as well...as far as movies, we have only allowed him to watch "The adventures of Winnie the Pooh", and he loves "Milo and Otis". He will watch "Thomas the Tank Engine now and then too.

I've discovered that CBS has a 1/2 hour animal program on Sat. afternoons. The program is called Animal Atlas. Last week's show was about animals that use camoflauge and how they use it. I thought it was interesting, and I have begun making a tape of that show and other animal shows. I don't mind watching a show a lot, but I am tired of Teletubbies and Booh bah (yes, dd loved them both ) However, she REALLY likes Charlotte's Web. I'm okay with this movie too. It's not too terribly annoying, but still only 1 time every other day :LOL

Victoria my 2 year old doesn't watch tv too much, but when she does she likes calliou, little bear, and zoom (which she laughs, when she watches) I think she likes zoom because she tries to imitate the older children.
She likes very few movies, but she Follow that bird (Big Bird), Wiggles Yummy yummy, Barney's Great adventures the movie, and that is about it. It seems as she goes for the acting kind of movies where she can sing and dance. She has watched Boobah, and teletubbies. But I really don't like her watching the teletubbies with the baby talk.

My 10 year old loves Labyrinth, and Legend, and there is another one but I can not think of it.

Bewitch, the monsters, gidget they like to watch if I ever watch it, and they are not preoccupied playing.
